How Far In Advance Should I Rent A Tuxedo?

In the world of weddings, the general rule used to be that you needed to rent a tuxedo or suit for your big day about two months in advance. Sometimes, you might find yourself with just two months, or maybe even two weeks, to plan the most important day of your life. That’s why you need a wedding tuxedo or suit vendor who can roll with the punches and make your dreams come true. Enter Belmeade Men’s Wear, your go-to partner for all your wedding attire needs!

Four Months to One Year (or Longer) from the Wedding Date

If you’re following a more traditional timeline for your wedding, renting your wedding tuxedo or suit about two months in advance is an excellent idea. This gives you ample time to discover the perfect look, whether it’s a sleek ensemble from n, Allure Men, Ike Behar, Kenneth Cole, Tony Bowls, Stephen Geoffrey, or other top-notch labels that Belmeade Men’s Wear proudly carries.

Three Months from the Wedding Date

For those of you with a slightly tighter schedule, you still have many vendor decisions to make. We recommend tackling the significant choices first, like picking your dream wedding venue, finding the perfect reception location, and selecting your delectable wedding cake. About one month from the wedding date, reach out to Belmeade Men’s Wear to secure your desired look and take care of all the necessary logistics for renting a tuxedo or suit. This includes measurements, scheduling fittings, and ensuring that your ensembles will be ready in time to dazzle on your special day.

    Top Prom After Party Ideas

prom after-party picture with guy in grey suit, blonde female in navy dress and brunette in yellow dress standing in front of moss covered wall with brightly colored paper flowers

One of the most memorable nights for a high school kid is prom.  But what they are really excited for is the after-party!  With some schools foregoing prom or scaling down prom because of COVID-19, some parents are putting together their own prom after-party for their high school kid and friends.  You will want to make sure you have some great things planned to help keep the party going!  Check out our list of ideas that will get the party started.

    Theme Ideas

First things first.  You have to have a theme for the prom after-party and there are a ton of themes that will work.  A casino night can bring their night to the next level!  Include card and table games like Blackjack, Poker, Roulette or Texas Hold’ Em.  Hold a raffle where they exchange their chips for prizes at the end of the night such as gift cards to Starbucks or Chick-fil-A.

Another fun theme would be a carnival night.  Have games like ring toss, dart balloon pop, or bean bag toss.  If you really want to go crazy, think about setting up real carnival rides or inflatable obstacle courses!

What about a game night theme because what high school kid doesn’t love video games? And this will definitely keep them entertained!  Use a projector and get some old school games like Mario Kart or Street Fighter and have them battle.  You could also incorporate board games into your game night theme.  Set up tournaments to see who the ultimate champion is.

    Entertainment

Let’s face it, high school kids love taking pictures.  So, what’s better than a photo booth to help capture the best night of their high school lives?  Gather silly props and costumes like hats, tiaras, old prom dresses, or ruffled tuxedo shirts.  Many party stores carry inexpensive photo booth kits that could include signs, fake mustaches, sunglasses, or feather boas. Look for objects around your home that would make interesting additions to your pictures. The pictures taken will serve as a reminder of the fun times they had for years to come.

Another fun and up-coming popular option would be green screen photos.  Who doesn’t love a fun background?  From standing next to a movie star or surfing the next big wave, a green screen photo offers unlimited possibilities.

Music is another must have for the prom after-party.  A great way to keep the fun going is hire a karaoke DJ so they can sing and dance the night away.

    Food

Every after-party has to have food!  And there is nothing more popular than food trucks, especially since they offer such a large variety of culinary goodies.  With options like burgers, tacos, barbecue or even donuts, your high school kids will love this idea, and the food!

If food trucks aren’t an option, then you can do something simple like pizza, appetizers, or a build-your-own hot dog bar.  Have popcorn, cotton candy, nacho cheese machine, or cupcake stand as treats throughout the night.

    Giveaways

If you want to make sure the kids attend your after-party, then you should offer prizes to be handed out at the end of the night.  Bigger prizes like iPads, laptops, or TV’s are sure to be a hit for the high school seniors who will head of the college soon.  More affordable or cheaper options might include a coffee machine, noise cancelling headphones, or an Echo Dot.  Gift cards to popular restaurants or stores such as Walmart or Bed, Bath & Beyond would be a great choice as well.

There are many exhilarating ideas for your after-prom party!  To create an unbelievable party that they will remember, you just need to mix and match a few of these ideas.  Belmeade Formal Wear can help make their prom just as memorable with a tuxedo or suit.  Shop online or stop by the shop.

7 Easy Ways to Support Small Businesses

support small businesses - shop local chalkboard sign

Many consumers are looking for easy and affordable ways to support small businesses in their local communities.  The combination of businesses being required to temporarily shut down and people staying home has caused small local businesses to suffer. Some of this will be temporary, but some business owners will be forced to shut down for good. The government is doing what it can in terms of financial relief and other initiatives, but that can only go so far and for so long. Ultimately it’s going to be up to us, the local communities and customers, to support small businesses.

      Why Support Local?

Local businesses are an important part of our communities.  Not only is buying goods and services locally a convenience, it’s a necessary way to support local schools, parks, roads, and more.  Small businesses provide employment and tax revenue for local improvements.  But most importantly, local businesses are owned by our family and friends. They’re what makes our communities unique and charming.

How Can I Support Small Businesses?

It’s simple really.  If you choose to buy something, think local first.  Here are 7 ways to support your local small businesses:

      1. Order Take Out: Even if your community hasn’t opened completely for business, many of the local restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops are open for take out or delivery. Stop by your favorite locations and consider new ones too.
      2. Buy a Gift Card: Looking for a last minute birthday gift, shower gift, or get well wish?  Consider a gift card from a local business.  And don’t just consider restaurants.  Services like a mani/pedi, house cleaning, personal trainer, or a car detail are always appreciated. Know of a local jeweler, photographer, or clothing store that is struggling?  Invest in a gift card for a future purchase.
      3. Purchase Add-on Services or Items: If you have the financial capacity to do so, consider buying more.  As a bride, consider purchasing your bridesmaid gifts from your local bridal shop where you purchased your dresses.  If you love the pastries at your local bakery, consider hiring them to make your wedding cake.  Whether it’s adding a dessert to your order or buying an extra tie and pocket square to go with your suit rental, any little bit can help.
      4. Don’t Forget to Tip:  If you can, tip generously. With lay-offs, reduced hours, and slow sales, service workers need our support too.
      5. Consider How You Cancel: If you can no longer attend an event because you are concerned for your health, definitely stay home! But if you are financially able to do so, consider not asking for a refund. Think of it as a donation to the business or organization you were looking forward to showing up for and supporting.
      6. Shop Safely: Be considerate of the store personnel and other shoppers. Do your part to keep yourself and others safe and healthy.
      7. Share on Social: Do you enjoy the food at your local eatery?  Was the service exceptional?  Did your local business go out of their way to make your experience great?  Is an organization hosting a fund-raising effort?  One of the best ways to support small businesses is to share the love on social.  Share or like their posts.  Give a rave review.  Like and comment on Google.  Any positive feedback can go a long way to market your favorite places to your social circle.

Helpful Guide to Slim Fit Suits and Tuxedos

groom in slim fit navy velvet coat and groomsmen in black suits

You’ve found THE suit for your wedding day!  Then you realize it’s only available as a slim fit option, and you immediately think of your groomsmen, dads, and grandfathers.  Will a slim fit suit work for the bigger guys in your party?  The answer is YES!  Just because it’s slim fit doesn’t mean it’s only meant for those thinner guys.  Our slim fit options are tailored to fit all body types…including big and tall sizes.  So if you’re wondering if slim fit suits are an option for your upcoming wedding,  we are here to explain why the answer is yes.

        What Does Slim Fit Mean?

There are a few key differences between a slim fit suit or tuxedo and a traditional or modern fit style.  Generally speaking, a slim fit style will offer a slimmer lapel, and the length of the coat will be shorter.  In addition, its design is just slightly narrower through the body; typically, by about an inch.  Slim rental options are not like a retail slim garments, since they are purposely made to fit a wide variety of shapes and sizes.  As the size of the coat gets larger, the fit becomes a little less slim to accommodate the body type.

What Is The Difference Between Slim Fit Suits And Regular Fit Suits?

Your first thought might be that a slim fit suit will be tight-fitting and uncomfortable.  Untrue!  The suit or tuxedo will hug your body, not suffocate it.  Slim fit suits and tuxedos are tailored to fit closer to your natural body shape.  The result is a flattering look that accentuates your form and looks similar to a tailor-made garment.

If you’re still concerned how a slim fit suit option will work for your older or larger men in the party, you can certainly opt for either a modern or traditional cut suit or tux.  Our modern fit styles offer a bit wider lapel than the slim fit option.  The coat will be longer in length and the sleeves and the shoulders will fit looser.  Our traditional fit styles are classic, fuller cut tuxedos. The coats are wider at the lapel, waist, sleeves, and shoulders. They are also generally longer in length.

        Ultra Slim Fits

What about ultra slim fits suits or tuxedos?  Can anybody wear them?  Yes and no.  Ultra slim fit styles will be slimmer through the body, the shoulders, and in the pant legs than a slim fit style. Many of our ultra slim fit options are available in a limited size range, so consult with Belmeade Men’s Wear for information on what sizes are offered.

If you have a larger guys in your party, Belmeade will offer suggestions for the best sizes to order to ensure a comfortable fit.  In addition, many of our most popular styles are available in both slim fit and ultra slim fit options.  While the color and styling are consistent, the two fits can accommodate everyone in the party if larger sizes are needed.

No matter what style or fit you choose for your upcoming wedding, Belmeade Men’sa Wear has a variety of options to make everyone in your party look great.  We can fit any wedding party, no matter what shape and size! Best Wedding Dates in 2021

Picking a wedding date is a special moment and can have a unique meaning to the couple. With 2020  in the rear view, there are a lot of great wedding dates you can choose this year.  We’ve listed some of the best wedding dates in 2021 to help you decide when to tie the knot.

          Easy To Remember Dates

Think your husband or wife-to-be might have a hard time remembering your wedding anniversary?  There are a few dates in 2021 that can help with that!  One date is  December 11th.    Why is it easy to remember?  Because it’s a palindrome date, which means it’s the same date backward and forward (12/11/21)!

If you’re willing to forego a weekend event, there are several easy-to-remember dates which fall during the week in 2021.  You can get married on 1/20/21, 1/21/21, 2/1/21 or 12/22/21.  Looking for a date even more unique? Pick April 4, 2021 which written in numbers is 4/3/21.  It can’t get much simpler than that! With the money you save on the weekday wedding festivities, you can spring for some fun favors that sport your special date.

Best Wedding Dates Inspired By Math

Math isn’t for everyone, but for those that love it, then some of the best wedding dates will be inspired by math.

          • 3/7/21 – 3×7 = 21
          • 7/3/21 – 7×3 = 21
          • 4/17/21 – 4+17 = 21
          • 5/16/21 – 5+16 = 21
          • 8/13/21 – 8+13 = 21
          • 9/12/21 – 9+12 = 21

March 14 (3.14) would be another great choice for a math inspired date.  Instead of the traditional wedding cake, serve a variety of pies for dessert to match the Pi theme.  Use the equation “you + me = us” on your invitations or programs.  Or use math in your seating chart.  Just be sure to make it easy enough for those non-math lovers to find their seat.

Best Wedding Dates - serve pie varieties to celebrate Pi Day

          Holiday Inspired Dates

The national holiday calendar is full of fun celebratory dates that can take on more than one meaning when used as your wedding date.  August 28th is National Bow Tie Day.  Have your groom and his groomsmen pair their favorite tuxedo or suit with a colorful or patterned bow tie.  Or, complete the groom’s and groomsmen’s looks with a bow tie and suspenders rather than the traditional tie and vest combination.

Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday in 2021 which would also be a fun and memorable date. Just be prepared to spend a little extra on your flowers and table centerpieces due to the holiday.  You can consider using silk flower arrangements or asking a family member or friend to help with the floral decorations to save a little money.

If warmer temps are more your style, springtime brings with it ideas of new life and new beginnings.  Tie in the symbolism by marrying on the spring equinox which falls on March 20th.

You are planning to marry your best friend. What a better way to celebrate your special bond and relationship than choosing August 1st, Friendship Day.

When choosing the participants of their wedding party, many couples can’t imagine their special day without their pet by their side.  If you consider your furry friend as part of your extended family, choose April 11th, which is National Pet Day.

Best Wedding Dates - bride and groom include their dog in wedding

Eco-Friendly Wedding: 6 Helpful Tips for the Earth-Conscious Couple

eco-friendly wedding, bride groom at table laughing

              February 20, 2021  https://www.belmeademenswear.com

There’s no denying that your wedding celebration will be one of the greatest and most memorable events of your life.  Unfortunately, it may also be one of the most wasteful.  It has been estimated that the average U.S. wedding produces around 400 pounds of waste.  Implementing just a few of these eco-friendly wedding ideas can help reduce your wedding’s carbon footprint.

              Picking The Perfect Rings

It’s never too early to start incorporating some earth-conscious options into your eco-friendly wedding plans.  Start with the rings, for example.  Consider proposing with a family heirloom.  If it’s not quite the style you were looking for, there are endless options to have the piece customized.

No family heirloom?  No problem!  Preserved and refurbished rings can easily be found at your local antique shop or estate sale.  A vintage jewelry piece makes for a one of a kind, and timeless option.

              Minimizing Printables

To help reduce the need for printed wedding materials, try using digital options whenever possible.  Organize your wedding using one of many wedding planning apps available on your smartphone.  Create a wedding website complete with your wedding details available for all guest to view.  Include a link to your website in a “save the date” text or email.

Cutting out paper all together is not a practical option for most.  But reducing the amount and type of paper used can still have a big impact.   Consolidate your invitations to one piece.  When considering printing companies, look for ones that give back to the environment or offer more eco-friendly options like using recycled or seed papers.

              Choosing A Venue

Select an eco-friendly wedding location that can accommodate both your ceremony and reception to reduce emissions from traveling vehicles.  If your event is staggered across multiple locations, offer a shuttle service.  The less vehicles traveling, the less toxins being released, the more eco-friendly your wedding.

Consider an outdoor wedding venue such as a national park or beach.  As if the natural lighting and beautiful scenery aren’t enough to convince you.  Often times, your rental fees for such locations will help fund conservation and clean up efforts.  It truly is a win-win!

              Reduce Food Waste

Choose a caterer that’s local and focuses their menu on sustainable and seasonal food options.  Not only is shopping local good for the economy, it also helps to reduce your carbon footprint.

Serve plated meals rather than an open buffet to reduce the amount of excess food.  Talk to your caterer about leftover food options.  If you are left with more than you can consume, donating it to your local homeless shelter or foodbank would be a great way to help out your community and reduce waste.  Just be sure to check regulations and guidelines in advance.

              eco-friendly wedding, succulent table decor

              Go Green With Your Decor

Take a minimalistic approach when choosing your eco-friendly wedding décor.  The less items used, the less waste in the end.  For the must have items, consider using decorative pieces you already own or can re-use in your home afterwards.  Chalkboards and mirrors make for great signage options.  For vase and center piece needs, get creative.  Search your kitchen cabinets and even the recycle bin for items like glass bottles, jars and tin cans.

Most items intended for single-use were not created with the environment in mind.  Linen table cloths, napkins and runners are not only eco-friendly, but they add a soft and elegant feel to your table.  Stay away from disposable paper plates and plastic wear.  Using real glasses, china and silverware that can be re-used will significantly decrease the amount of waste at your wedding.

Look to nature for some green inspiration.  Real leaves can be used for unique place cards and table décor.  Consider using potted plants instead of cut flowers.  Succulents, cacti, orchids and herbs make for great options.  Live plants can also double as parting gifts for your guests.

If fresh cut flowers are a must, shop local and choose blooms that are in season.  After the event, share your arrangements with family and friends or donate them to your local hospital, senior center or homeless shelter.  For any greens that can not be donated or reused, do not just trash them.  Instead, compost them to reduce landfill waste.

              Rental Wear

From wedding décor to wedding attire, there are almost as many rental options available as there are to purchase.  Plus, you don’t have to find a place to store it or deal with the guilt of buying it and never using it again.  Simply return it to where you got it from for some one else to enjoy again.

With more people becoming earth-conscious, eco-friendly bridal options are much more plentiful.  Ask your local bridal shop about their rental options before viewing their purchase goods.  You may be surprised how many options are available.  Not to mention how much money you could be saving.

Belmeade Men’s Wear has hundreds of rental options available!  From suits and tuxedos to shoes and accessories, we’ve got you covered.  Not only do our rental goods reduce waste, our company has adopted a variety of green practices to minimize our carbon footprint.

Use these ideas to get your eco-friendly wedding planning under way.  When it comes to going green, every little bit counts.  Implementing even just one of these earth-conscious wedding ideas into your special day can have a big impact on the earth.

Another great way to use blue in your wedding is the pairing of blush and ice blue.  This elegant and romantic color scheme is a great choice and can be used for an indoor or outdoor spring wedding with its softer color arrangement.  Add a regal touch with hints of gold throughout your décor and flowers.  Just adding in a few splashes with help make this color palette come together.

                    Peaches And Green

A classic spring color is peach and it compliments very well with greenery.  Picture peach bridesmaids’ dresses with a foliage heavy bouquet.  You could also replace the peach with terracotta, a natural brown – orange that is becoming very popular right now.  Look around social media and all you see is the color terracotta paired with muted, natural colors!  To help bring the spring, add pastels such as light pink and at the same time it will help contrast the earthy tones.  Grey suits for the guys will help unite everything together.

floral bouquest with pinks, peaches and greens

Obviously, there is no shortage of color schemes to choose from for a spring wedding.  From neutral and earthy tones to bright and bold hues, a spring wedding will undoubtedly be a beautiful and memorable one.  Whatever you decide to do, Belmeade Menswear  has what you need so your guys can look their best on your wedding day!

6 Easy Tasks to Delegate on Your Wedding Day

Planning a wedding is time consuming, so asking for help along the way just makes sense.  But for Type A brides, relinquishing control over wedding day details can be a source of anxiety and uncomfortable feelings. While you shouldn’t hand over your complete list of to-do’s to your family members or bridal party, there are several easy tasks to delegate on your wedding day for a stress-free day.

                      Paying Or Tipping Vendors

Inevitably, no matter how much planning you put into the day, there will be wedding vendors that request to be paid on the day of the event. Communicate with your wedding day vendors beforehand, so you know what’s expected. Be sure to take note if cash or check will be accepted.  And come prepared with separate envelopes for each vendor with the payment (and tip) enclosed.  Enlist the help of someone you trust to take care of tracking down the vendor and handing over the envelopes.

                      Babysitting Kids

Whether you’ve invited all of your family’s and friends’ kids or you’ve only included a few close relations (maybe they’re your own children), kids can be a handful during the ceremony and reception.  Your attention will be elsewhere during the event, so you’ll want someone on hand to keep them entertained and safe.  Choose a teenage relative or friend to watch them during specific times, or hire a trusted babysitter to manage the children from start to finish.

                      Running Last Minute Errands

As the day draws closer, you’ll likely have a long list of errands that need to be run. Separately, they aren’t a big deal, but collectively they can take up a large chunk of your time.  Consider doling out a few of these last minute tasks to a wedding party member:

                      • Picking up your dress or suit from the cleaners
                      • Picking up guests from the airport
                      • Gathering decor, flowers, or rentals from vendors
                      • Ordering breakfast or lunch
                      • Delivering items to the venue

Make a list of the task and who it’s been assigned to, so you can easily reference it later.  You might be surprised how difficult it is to remember the little things as the day draws closer.  And be sure to give your loved one instructions including an address and a phone number for each job.

                      Updating Social Media

We all have that one friend who posts to Instagram like it’s her job.  She knows just which images and filters to use, and she always comes up with the best captions and hashtags. Whether you’ve decided to have an un-plugged wedding  or  you’ve had your wedding hashtag since you and your fiance started dating, social media will ultimately play a role in your day.  Consider asking one or two friends to help you update your social accounts. Choose people who you know will do a great job of capturing the right moments to post for you.

                      Last Minute Decorations

Throughout your wedding celebration, you may be planning to re-purpose items from the ceremony to the reception, like flowers, decor, and signage. Be sure to outline which changes need to be made and when they need to happen.  Include items like lighting candles at the reception site, rearranging tables and chairs after the ceremony, or even delivering gifts and cards to your home before the dance starts. Top tip: avoid asking your wedding party members or family members that might be involved in pictures immediately following the ceremony.

                      Rounding Up Guests For Photos

Once you’ve said your I Do’s, your photographer will most likely start to capture some of the family photos on your must-have list. This is the time when your guests will be mingling with others at the bar, near the DJ, or even outdoors.  Find a friend or family member who is familiar with all the people on your list. They can wrangle the guests while you continue to socialize, so you can enjoy more of your day.

There are so many tasks that need to be accomplished before the big day.  There’s no harm in selecting a few key tasks to delegate on your wedding day.  You can also get ahead of the game by checking tuxedo or suit rentals off your list early.  You can start shopping online at https://www.belmeademenswear.com

You’re Engaged! Do These 4 Steps Right Away.

engaged couple in front of buliding

You’re engaged!  Congratulations!  But now what?  Who do you tell and when?  What tasks should you complete first?  What venue should you choose?  These are all relevant questions.  We’ve put together the first few important steps of what to do after you’ve gotten engaged.

                          Spread The News

As soon as that ring is on your finger, you will want to let EVERYONE know.  But first, we would recommend taking some time to soak in the “just got engaged” feeling.  Enjoy each other!  You’ll be incredibly busy planning your wedding for the next several months.

The next step would be to notify your parents and immediate family first.  Definitely do not text them!  Give them a call or even better, FaceTime them so you can see their reactions.  Next comes your extended family and friends and then you can make the announcement on social media.

Social media is the greatest way to let everyone else know about the wonderful news.  Take a picture of you and your fiancé or take a ring selfie.  Change your status, and make it Facebook official!

                          Pick A Date

The easiest way to start narrowing down a date is to first decide on what season you would like to be married.  Do you love the winter season that brings along with it magical holiday themes and snowy weather?  Would you prefer a fall wedding with crisp autumn air?

Dates can book up fast, especially for the more popular dates or seasons.  We would recommend picking a few dates that you would love in case the venue you’ve chosen is booked.  That way you’ll have the next best option to pick from.

                          Get Inspired

Sit down together and start discussing what you both would like your wedding to look like.  Start by going to Pinterest and do a simple search for “weddings”.  There are boundless wedding images and ideas out there, and you may discover something that you would have never thought of before, like getting married at a vineyard!  Create a Pinterest account and start pinning away!  If you see something you love, like table décor, pin it; even if you’ve already pinned 10 other table décor images.  Now is the time to get ideas and explore wedding options.  After a while, your style will become clear.

                          Organize

There are a lot of tasks to complete and decisions to make when planning a wedding.  Schedule engagement photos, look at venues,  contact vendors, and so on.  The best thing you can do is start creating lists and get organized.  While you may start to stress at just the sheer thought of everything you need to get done, there are a lot of great tools out there to help you along the way.  For example, The Knot has a wedding planner app as well as a personalized wedding checklist that will surely help you stay on top of your to-dos.

While this is only the top four steps to follow after getting engaged, once you’ve got them complete, you will be well equipped to dive deeper into your wedding planning.  You’ll want to look your best on your wedding day.  Belmeade Men’s Wear has styles and colors for everyone from “big and tall” to ringbearer small!  You can choose Belmeade’s direct delivery option to have your outfits shipped right to the guys’ door anywhere in the continental United States.  If you have questions, just let us know by using the form below.  Thank you for shopping Belmeade!

6 Ways to Entertain Children at Your Wedding

                            flower girls blowing bubbles

Weddings can be long and boring for children.  Make your wedding day special for even the smallest guests!  We’ve put together this list of fun ways to entertain kids at your wedding.  Consider adding a few to your special day.  Children (and parents) will be glad you did!

                            Pass Out Goodie Bags

Have ushers pass out treat bags to children as they are seated at the ceremony.  Fill the bags with small toys like cars, plastic creatures and action figures for boys.  Pretend jewelry, a crown and dolls may be some good options for the girls.  Or, make them gender neutral with crayons, activity books, stickers or a travel size game.

Adding a small drink and snack in the treat bag is another great idea.  Water, juice, marshmallows, crackers and gummies are all good options.  Whatever you choose to include in your bags, just be sure that it is not messy or noisy, and it is safe for children of all ages.

Get The Kids On The Dance Floor

There is one thing to be said about most kids…they are full of energy!  And after sitting at the ceremony, they’ll be ready to move.  What better place to entertain kids at your wedding than on the dance floor.  Ask your DJ or band to play some kid friendly music throughout the reception.  Adding the chicken dance or the Limbo to your playlist is sure to get kids of all ages moving.

Setting aside a time for a kids only dance party would be a great way to make the kiddos feel extra special.  Consider songs from children’s movies or other popular kids’ shows.  And while you have all the children together on the open floor, why not hang a pinata for some extra special fun!

                            Offer A Kids’ Meal

Getting kids to sit down and eat can be a challenge.  Especially with so much excitement going on around them.  Cover some tables in white butcher paper or brown craft paper.  Add buckets of crayons and stickers to help encourage your little guest to be seated (and stay seated) for meal time.

Consider a special menu for the kiddos.  Add simple foods like pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, french fries, macaroni, etc.  Serve it up buffet style, so kids can help themselves and choose a variety of their favorites.

Maybe even think about staggering your meal times.  Open the kids only buffet first.  The little ones can eat while parents socialize over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.  Then the children can play while the parents sit and enjoy their meal.

                            Hire An On-Site Babysitter

If you really want to set your parent guests at ease, provide an on-site child care option.  Family and friends may be a great resource, especially young teens.  Assign multiple sitters to certain time slots or activities, so they can rotate out.  This way, they too are able to enjoy your special day.  Be sure to offer payment of some sort to your sitters and encourage guests that may be utilizing the services to tip as well.

                            Create A Kids’ Zone

Designate an area with fun filled kid’s activities.  Set out some classic board games like Hungry Hippo, Twister, or Operation.  Puzzles and blocks are also good options for most any kid.  Provide arts and craft supplies like crayons, play dough, pipe cleaners and stickers to keep those little hands busy for hours.

If you have an outdoor venue with extra lawn or garden space set out hula hoops, jump ropes or even kites.  Bubbles and side walk chalk are good options for even the littlest of guests.  And lawn games like cornhole and giant jenga are sure to entertain even the oldest of kids.

Don’t feel like you have to go out and buy all new games for this one night.  Reach out to friends and family.  They will probably be more than happy to loan or donate items to your kids’ zone.  And if you’re feeling creative, there are some great DIY carnival games ideas out there that are sure to entertain kids at your wedding.

                            Enjoy Some Quiet Time

After a long day of fun-filled activities, the kiddos will be ready for much needed wind down time.  Create a quiet movie space, or room if your venue allows.  Set up child size chairs, beanbags and cushions for seating.  Toss in some pillows and blankets for extra comfort.  Milk and cookies or popcorn would make for a nice treat, fitting for movie time.

Whether you utilize some of these ways to entertain kids at your wedding or come up with some of your own, children and parents alike are sure to enjoy.  And if any of your little guests are also ringbearers or junior groomsmen, be sure they’re dressed the part.  Belmeade Men’s Wear has styles to rent or purchase. Your guys can also enjoy the convenience of receiving their outfits at their doorstep with Belmeade’s direct delivery option!

Absolute Best Trends for Weddings in 2021

Everybody is excited to welcome 2021, especially brides and grooms-to-be!  With a new year, new trends are emerging for the wedding industry.  To-the-max and over the top weddings are gone and stepping in are understated, sleek weddings with more intimacy for everyone.  Here are the best trends for weddings in 2021 that you can incorporate into your big day!

                              Food

Buffets were a staple at weddings before Covid-19.  However, with safety concerns, couples are now opting for smaller plated dinners and individualized portions.

Gone are the days of one large wedding cake.  With cozier weddings, a lot of couples don’t see the need for the large cake. Instead, they are opting for mini cakes that are more vibrant in detail.  Add radiant flowers that go along with your color palette as a topper.  You could even have a cupcake or donuts tower in place of the large wedding cake too!

Another big trend are charcuterie boards.  Couples are using a grazing table for the cocktail hour or even in place of their dessert table. With savory meats, cheeses, breads and crackers, your guests will be ecstatic by the convenience and deliciousness.

                              Weekday Weddings

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s how to be thrifty and adapt to change.  In the past, the most popular days to get married were Friday, Saturday or Sunday. With a lot of couples having to postpone their wedding to later in 2020 or even to 2021, the weekends were filling up fast for venues.  A solution is to have a wedding during the week.  If you had your heart set on a particular venue, choosing to have it on a weekday could open the possibility of still having it there.  It could also save you thousands of dollars!

                              Pop Of Color

Whites, creams and greenery are a thing of the past.  Couples are using bright, fun, bold, happy colors.  Whether that be in the décor, flowers, stationary or even the attire.  More and more brides are having their bridesmaids dress in a variety of colors; such as different shades of purple.  The groom is also someone that can add a pop of color.  Nowadays many couples are opting to forego the traditional black suit.  Forest green or fashion color suits or tuxedos are a great choice for winter weddings. Or, choose blush, light blue and even off white for summer weddings.

bride in bridal gown with hat and groom in burgundy tux jacket

                              Gifts

Some couples already live together when they decide to get married.  They’ve already purchased basic household items and are not in need of the “traditional” wedding gifts such as towels, blenders, or silverware.  Instead, they are asking for cash that can be used for the home they wish to buy one day.  Some are even asking their guests to donate to their favorite charity.

                              Decor & Lighting

Even though weddings are becoming smaller and more intimate, one thing that brides and grooms will be going all out with is the decorations.  With huge, dramatic floral backgrounds and lavish accents, it’s sure to make a statement.  Lighting will also play a big role in 2021.  With more outdoor weddings taking place and unique venues like gardens and breweries, mood lighting will bring that romantic, fairy-tale ambiance to the wedding.  You can use vintage chandeliers, candles, modern tube lighting and hanging basket lanterns to help set the mood.

trends for weddings in 2021 - a bunch of string lights inside a venue

To sum it up, 2021 wedding trends are all about intimacy, color and over the top décor.  With smaller weddings, it allows the bride and groom to focus more on the smaller details, ultimately creating a great experience for themselves and their guests.

However you decide to celebrate, Belmeade Men’s Wear has what you need for the groom and his groomsmen on your wedding day! And, remember Belmeade ships directly to your guys’ door within the continental United States using our direct delivery option!  Enjoy!

Guidelines for Setting a Perfect Wedding Date in 4 Simple Steps

bride and groom kissing with glass of wine

So, your fiancé popped the big question and you answered with an ecstatic “YES”! Now what? Where do you begin?

Planning a wedding is no small task. While the process of planning a wedding is different for every couple, setting a wedding date should be a top priority. Here are 4 simple steps to setting a wedding date with ease.

                                Set A Budget

We know…budgeting is not one of those things you want to think about when dreaming of your wedding. However, setting (and sticking to) a budget is a must. Talk with your family. Find out who’s contributing and how much is being contributed. Decide how much you and your fiancé can comfortably contribute. Knowing your budget in advance will help narrow down some of your most difficult wedding planning decisions, including the wedding date.  If your budget is tight, consider a weekday wedding or an off-season date to save some expense.

                                Make A Wish List

What kind of wedding have you been dreaming of? A rustic countryside setting with lush spring florals? An elegant ballroom adorned with rich fabrics and sparkling crystal? An intimate elopement with an ocean sunset? The possibilities are truly endless. Start sifting through your ideas. Make a list of all of your wants and must haves. List venues, décor, vendors for florals, food, music and more. Be sure to include your fiancé in the fun. After all, you’re in this together. You might be surprised at how similar your ideas are.

                                Choose A Time Of Year

Now that you have a good idea of what you want and what you can afford it’s time to start thinking about the when. But don’t get too caught up on choosing an exact date just yet. Instead, start thinking about your favorite season or weather. Keep in mind that list of wants and needs. Consider what you want to wear or how you want to decorate. Some things, such as florals, may come at a higher cost if out of season. Or, they may not be available at all.

Also think about the comfort and availability of your guests.  Holidays are usually a busy time for everyone, so it’s best to steer clear of those dates.

                                Contact Venues And Vendors

Start contacting your top venue and vendor choices ASAP. Find out what dates they have available in your preferred season(s).  If there are available dates and they are in your budget, go ahead and book what you can right away. You’ll find that these things book up fast and often far in advance. Don’t get discouraged if your first choices aren’t available. Keep an open mind. Think outside of the box. Maybe even check into the availability of different week day wedding options. Or, consider extending your engagement into the next year if the dates you want are not available.

Don’t forget to take time to celebrate and enjoy your engagement.

Whatever date you choose, it will be special, now and forever. And when you’re ready to start planning the details, count on Belmeade Men’s Wear to make you look great that day!  Get started by visiting Belmeade Men’s Wear online .

We deliver right to your groomsmen’s door within the continental United States. Enjoy!

                                  October 5, 2020

Are you planning a home town wedding with out of town groomsmen?  Or maybe you’re simply trying to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. If you have questions about groomsmen’s tuxedos and suits for your big day, we have in store and online options to help accommodate most any scenario.

Build a custom tuxedo or suit

Browse our selection of suits and tuxedos and build a custom ensemble to suit your tastes. Need some help deciding?  Visit  Belmeade Men’s Wear, 149 E Mountcastle Dr, Johnson City, TN 37601, for personal expert advice. Or, call (423) 282-3892. Ask for Gary

                                  Organize your event

Once you’ve chosen the perfect outfits for everyone in the party, the Event Manager will help to get you organized.  You can save styles, add members, assign looks, and share all of the information with your entire party.

                                  Get measured

Whether you’ve chosen to rent in store or online, your groomsmen will need to be measured.  If you’ve selected a local Jim’s Formal Wear Retailer to handle your tuxedo or suit rental needs, they can measure any of your guys that live close to the store’s location.

But how do you get sizes for all of the groomsmen who are scattered across the country?  Simply share a link to Jim’s out-of-town measurement form. Your out of towners can present this form to their local Jim’s Formal Wear Retailer when they go to get measured.  If they do not have a Jim’s Formal Wear retailer close, visiting a professional tailor shop or men’s formal wear store would be a good alternative.

Sometimes busy schedules get in the way of important groomsmen duties, and we understand.  If the gentlemen in your wedding party have trouble getting to a store to have their measurements taken, they can learn from our video by following our easy-to-use instructions. Just go to www.belmeademenswear.com, and look for the link.

Renting your wedding tuxedos or suits in store can be a great option for you and your out of town groomsmen.  You’ll receive hands-on, personalized service and get your wedding members registered.  Your out of town groomsmen should share the information gathered on their measurement forms directly with Belmeade. . . Then, Belmeade will take over and complete the ordering process from there.

Your tuxedos or suits will be delivered the week of your event.  Your outfits are generally available on Thursday afternoon for a Saturday event.  However, if your out of town groomsmen won’t arrive until just a day or two before the wedding, ask about our Direct Delivery option. Orders can be shipped directly to your groomsmen’s home, office or other destination of choice.

Belmeade has Your Colors for a Perfect Fall Wedding

MOST POPULAR FALL WEDDING COLORS FOR 2020

                                    September 30, 2020

With cooler temperatures, picturesque foliage and transitional clothing, what’s not to like.  Pair those items with the warm tones and rich colors that are popular during fall, and it’s every bride’s dream.  But what colors should you incorporate into your décor, bridesmaids’ dresses and formal wear? Here are some of the most popular fall wedding colors for 2020.

                                    Green and Orange

Incorporate nature into your wedding with green and orange. Take a cue from the deep orange and red tones in the changing trees.  Burnt orange accents in your bouquets and table decorations are a great way to pay homage to the great outdoors.  You can even incorporate a deep orange signature cocktail for guests to enjoy.  Use greenery accents at your ceremony and consider serving pistachio ice cream at the reception for a truly unique touch.

bride with bridesmaids wearing orange gowns

                                    Grey and Purple

This rich color scheme is a great choice for fall weddings.  Imagine your groomsmen in an elegant steel grey ensemble with a purple tie as an accent.  Use deep purple accents in your linens, table settings, and invitations.  And cover each table with a rich grey tablecloth and crystal accents.  You can’t go wrong with this regal combo.

                                    Navy and Dusty Rose

Navy and dusty rose are getting lots of attention this fall for their romantic look and feel.  Try pairing navy bridesmaid dresses with a bouquet filled with dusty rose and white flowers.  For the men, they’ll look amazing in a fitted navy suit, dusty rose tie, and chestnut colored shoes.  Navy can be seen as masculine while dusty rose is more feminine, making the two a perfect pair! This color palette is all about the romance.

                                    Burgundy and Black

An elegant, evening wedding calls for rich, dark tones.  Choose a classic black bridesmaid’s dress for the ladies.  Adding the rich burgundy shade into the mix allows this duo to be a chic option.  Outfit your groomsmen in Belmeade’s burgundy coat with black ties to coordinate with the bridesmaids.  You can accent the decor with hints of gold to help make the look more polished.

fall wedding colors -bride running with groom wearing burgundy jacket and black pants

                                    Mustard Yellow and Red

Can’t decide between a summer or fall wedding?  With these two colors, you can get the best of both worlds!  We love these colors with elegant black tuxedos.  Accent the venue with yellow sunflowers and red berries. And for a delicious addition, incorporate a chocolate fountain with strawberries and pineapple pieces for your guests with a sweet tooth.

                                    Emerald and Wine

You may think that green and red are only for the holidays, but think again!  For fall months, pairing jewel tones such as wine and emerald green together will have you feeling luxurious. Choose emerald dresses and accent their attire with bouquets filled with wine colored ranunculus and small white roses. For the men, pair their suit or tuxedo with wine colored neck wear.  And for a fun touch, opt for red velvet cupcakes over a traditional cake.

No matter what color pallet you choose, Belmeade Men’s Wear has you covered.  Check out our selection of fall wedding colors – from suits and tuxedos to the latest colors in vests and ties – view our options online at www.belmeademenswear.com. When Your Wedding Vendor Cancels On You

WHEN YOUR WEDDING VENDOR CANCELS ON YOU

                                      September 1, 2020

Planning a wedding can be an exciting and fun experience to tackle.  However, as exciting as the planning process can be, it can also be a huge relief when all your wedding vendors have been booked. Now you can focus on the small details and finishing touches as you look forward to your big day. But if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that you should always be prepared to pivot or adjust your plans.  There are many reasons why a business might cancel on your wedding at the last minute – fire, weather, double-bookings, or even going out of business abruptly. We’ve put together some helpful tips on what to do when your wedding vendor cancels on you.

when your vendor cancels - two women working on a computer

                                      Contact your wedding planner

Consult with your wedding planner immediately.  They are professionals, and they likely have dealt with similar situations in the past.  It might surprise you how quickly they can find a solution.

                                      Check your contract

If you’ve signed a contract with the wedding vendor, consult it for details on the cancellation policy.  It likely contains a contingency plan should the vendor need to cancel due to unfortunate circumstances like a fire or a storm.  However, it’s important to understand your rights in regard to deposits made if the vendor has gone out of business.  If necessary, contact your bank or credit card company to dispute the payment or charge.

Research and consult with other wedding vendors

Ask for a referral from your previous wedding vendor if you still trust them. Chances are they will have a recommendation for a reliable, local company to hire.  Check Google reviews and ask your friends and family for advice. It’s important to gather information and research your wedding vendors before you decide to do business with them.

                                      Purchase wedding insurance

If you’re still in the planning process, consider purchasing wedding insurance to protect yourself. It’s becoming increasingly popular, especially in the year 2020. Wedding insurance protects the bride and groom from circumstances beyond their control, whether that is a vendor falling through at the last minute or needing to cancel or postpone your event due to unforeseen circumstances.

                                      Be willing to compromise

You and your fiance may need to determine what compromises you’re willing to make. This largely depends on how far along you are in the planning process, when the cancellation occurred, and which vendor canceled.  For instance, if your venue isn’t able to host your wedding, it may be necessary to change or postpone your event date. If you originally planned on renting your groom’s and groomsmen’s attire from a Men’s Wearhouse location that’s been closed, you can simply look for an alternative location or business to service your formalwear needs. Updating smaller aspects or details of the day are certainly easier to navigate quickly.

                                      Communicate

Keep an open line of communication with your wedding vendors. As frustrating as it is, your vendor does not want to cancel on you and most likely feels terrible for doing so. Most will try to work with you to resolve the situation or find an alternative to whatever service they were offering you.

Your wedding is a day to be enjoyed without worry and stress. Let Belmeade Men’s Wear help your guys look their absolute best on the big day.  Shop our selection at www.belmeademenswear.com. Thank you for shopping with us!

                                                                                                July 5, 2018

                                                                                                how to button a suit

Oh, buttons! They grace so many parts of a suit, but seem to cause lots of confusion. How to button a suit (and all its parts!) is the question of the day. Should buttons be buttoned or unbuttoned? Are they just decoration or useful? Let’s button up these common questions once and for all.

                                                                                                The Jacket: Buttoned or Unbuttoned?

As a general rule of etiquette, a jacket should be buttoned when standing and unbuttoned when seated. Of course, there are additional rules too.

On a two-button jacket, only use the top one when it’s time to button up. Have three buttons? You just gained options! When buttoning, always use the middle button. The top is optional, and the bottom button is decorative. Don’t button it!

A double-breasted jacket has rules all of its own. It can be fully buttoned (like royalty!) when both seated and standing. Be sure your tailor fits it this way so it’s not too tight when bending to sit. For a more casual approach, button all the buttons except the bottom row.

                                                                                                What About A Dress Shirt?

Under your jacket, you probably have a button-up dress shirt. Here, we like to observe two rules: with and without a tie. If you’re sporting a Windsor knot or bow tie, button your shirt all the way to the top.

If you’re going without a tie, it’s appropriate to leave the top two buttons open. Take note that your undershirt isn’t visible. If so, button back up or choose a low-scoop neck undershirt.

how to button a suit shirt

                                                                                                Do I Button The Vest?

Much like a jacket, leave the bottom button undone and close the vest whether you’re seated or standing. It would look awkward to leave a vest open with a suit, so button it up!

Why is There a Button Inside My Waistband?

If your dress pants have a hook and clasp closure at the front, you probably have a small interior button on the waistband. Button it. It’s there to help with the drape and fit of your pants across the front of the groin.

Now that you’re comfortable with the rules of buttoning your suit and shirt, it’s time to find the perfect suit or tux for your formal event! As a guest, pair the suit with understated pastel pink, yellow, or green pocket square and tie. Feel free to play with classic patterns like stripes, paisley, or polka dots to show off your personality.

If you’re in the wedding party and helping with formal wear color choices, call on nature for ideas. We love robin-egg blue, daffodil yellow, rich violet, and grass green when coordinating bridesmaids dresses and wedding suit accessories. Neutral silver or cream make beautiful accent colors.

                                                                                                men's suit etiquette

You’ve picked the perfect suit. It’s tailored and waiting in the garment bag for the big event. Then, it happens. You slip into your outfit and have no idea what to do next. Should the jacket be buttoned? Is my tie the right length? And what about my socks? Have no fear, the ultimate men’s suit etiquette guide is here! Here’s what you need to know, from head to toe.

                                                                                                The Shirt

                                                                                                men's suit etiquette shirt

Use those buttons! When trying on your formalwear, don’t skip out on a test fit of the dress shirt. You want the neck to be the proper size so when you button up, you can still be comfortable. It’s never ok to leave a few buttons undone, especially when wearing a tie.

Do wear an undershirt with a dress shirt – it helps to wick away perspiration. Don’t forget to wear it during your test fit to ensure proper sizing.

Now peek at your wrists. Your dress shirt should cover the wrist bones but not flow over the hands. And, keep those cuffs buttoned up. We love the use of cufflinks to personalize your outfit.

                                                                                                The Jacket

                                                                                                men's suit etiquette jacket

The toughest part about wearing a jacket is knowing when to keep it open and when to button up. When standing, it’s gentleman’s choice. If you use the buttons, ensure that you can easily slip your hand between the jacket and your shirt. If not, the jacket is too small. And take note: The bottom button should always be left undone on a jacket (yes, even when the top button is closed). The only exception is when wearing a one-button jacket. When seated, always leave the jacket open.

Let’s talk about fit. The shoulders of the jacket should rest atop the shoulders and gently hug to your frame. If the seams are drooping over your shoulders, the jacket is too big. Look to the lower hem. A fitted jacket should fall just at the tops of the thighs, several inches below your hip bones. If the zipper on the trousers is concealed when the jacket is closed, the jacket is a good length. Is the top button of the jacket at about navel height? Perfect!

If your jacket has a breast pocket or wide lapel, embellish it with either a boutonniere, a lapel pin, or a pocket square. Be sure to iron this fabric accessory and choose a color or pattern that coordinates with your shirt and tie.

                                                                                                The Tie

                                                                                                men's suit etiquette tie

You’ve perfected a snug Windsor knot, now look down. Your tie should end just above your belt buckle or pants closure. If it’s too long or too short, tie it again! When it comes to bow ties, they’re generally one-size fits all. The bow itself should appear symmetrical, with each bow half (not including the center knot) measuring approximately three-fingers wide.

And, how does your tie look overall? Generally, men choose a tie that contrasts in color with the suit. Light suit, dark tie. Or, pinstriped suit, solid tie. Don’t be too matchy-matchy.

If you’re using a tie clip or a tie bar, it shouldn’t be wider than the tie itself.

                                                                                                The Pants

                                                                                                men's suit etiquette pants

Whether you’re standing or sitting, your suit pants should never look baggy or bunchy. If they do, they’re too long or too spacious. Both issues can be fixed with some custom tailoring or selecting a different fit.

If you choose to wear suspenders, leave the belt at home. You only need one or the other when wearing a suit.

                                                                                                The Shoes

                                                                                                men's suit etiquette shoes

First, a quick note about socks. Yes, wear them. Choose something colorful and leave the white athletic socks at home. Dress socks should always be tall enough to cover any skin that might show when you’re standing or seated.

Once dressed, the hemline of your pants should cover the top of the shoe and extend forward to just before the arch when standing. Your toes are visible. You will notice a ‘break’, or small crease in the fabric of the pants, if your pants are compatible with the footwear you’ve chosen. If you see piles of folds, the pants are too long.

Do you need to add a new suit to your wardrobe? wedding suit colors

Spring (bridal) showers mean summer wedding flowers are on the way! It also means that it’s time to make those final suit selections for the men in your party. This summer, grooms, attendants, and guests are opting for formal wear with a bit of color. We all love a classic black tuxedo, but summer is the perfect time to experiment with something more bold for your event.

Summer Wedding Suit Colors: Grey, Blue & Tan

Grey suits are having a huge moment this season. From heather and sterling to plaid, there’s sure to be a shade or pattern to catch your eye. We love this classic look because it’s neutral and readily accepts the light and bright colors of a summer wedding palette.

Our picks: Pair grey with pastel pink, rich lavender, avocado green, fiery magenta, or robin-egg blue.

                                                                                                wedding suit colors blue

Another popular summer wedding suit color is blue! Again, there are several shades to pick from including dark navy tones to brighter cobalt, slate, and indigo. Some of these suits are trimmed with black for a sharp two-tone look. When it comes to pairing colors with these suits, go neutral.

Our picks: Pair blue with white, cream, eggshell, silver, or black.

Finally, consider a tan suit. This pale hue is perfect for beach-theme nuptials and coordinates with weddings featuring bold palates. Does the bride dream of a rainbow bouquet and colorful boutonnieres to match? Are the men set on paisley-printed ties? Choose tan suits! This soft, neutral color easily pairs with everything.

Our picks: Pair tan suits with bubblegum pink, juicy tangerine, baby blue, and snow white.

                                                                                                6 Colorful Summer Accessories

                                                                                                wedding suit colors sock

Whether you stick with a classic black wedding suit or try one of the colors mentioned earlier, you can always add a refreshing summer vibe to your ensemble with the accessories you choose.

Shirt: You don’t have to wear white to a wedding! Take a cue from the runways and opt for a colorful dress shirt under that suit jacket. Choose ivory, black, light blue, or pink shirt colors in either fitted or traditional styles.

Pocket square: Solid or patterned, you can’t go wrong by adding summer-inspired colors to your look with a swatch of style in your pocket. Match this with the bridal party bouquets or the attendants’ dresses.

Tie: This accessory usually coordinates with the pocket square, but doesn’t have to! Try a bold color-blocking style by choosing a solid-color tie in a color differing from your solid-color pocket square. Color combos we love include yellow and blue, pink and green, and purple and yellow.

Socks: Each time the men sit, let a hint of personality peek out with some fancy socks. We love the idea of having all the men in the bridal party match with uncommon-patterned socks.

Are you ready to finalize your summer wedding look?  Stop by Belmeade Men’s Formal Wear at 149 E Mountcastle Dr in Johnson City, Tennessee. When the dress code for an event requires you to wear a piece of clothing you may not even recognize, it’s especially easy to feel overwhelmed.

If your next wedding or black tie affair requires you to wear a cummerbund, don’t worry! Finding and wearing a cummerbund to compliment your formal look isn’t as difficult as it seems. Here’s how to wear a cummerbund like a pro.

                                                                                                When to Wear a Cummerbund

Cummerbunds are formal accoutrements and are worn exclusively for evening attire. So if you’re wondering when to wear your cummerbund, the answer probably isn’t your next low-key work party. If you want to mix up your outfit, play with color or other accessories – leave cummerbunds for when you need to make an impression at a black tie event or formal event.

                                                                                                Why to Wear a Cummerbund

When the occasion calls for it, don’t hesitate to incorporate a cummerbund into your outfit. They are one of the most flattering, attention-grabbing accessories in your arsenal. They cover any bunching where your shirt meets your trousers. Additionally, they’ll hold your stomach in, create flattering proportions for your torso, and make your waist look narrower, which in turn makes your shoulders look broader. In short – your Instagram snaps will never get more likes.

                                                                                                How to Wear a Cummerbund

Look at the fabric and color

Unless you’re attending a themed event or a wedding as a groomsman where you’re coordinating with bridesmaid dresses, you’ll usually want to stick with the standard colors for your cummerbund: black, red, or maroon. But if your event calls for it, or you’re feeling adventurous, you could coordinate the color of your cummerbund to your tie or pocket square, and try something a little more attention-grabbing.

Outside of the color, look at the type of fabric that the cummerbund is made of. While your cummerbund doesn’t necessarily need to match your bow tie in color, it should be cut from the same material. Matching fabrics will help you present a high-class look at your formal event.

                                                                                                Pay attention to positioning

Cummerbunds should be worn with the pleats facing upward at your natural waist. They should cover equal amounts of your shirt and trousers. Wear it too high, and you’ll look short; wear it too low, and your proportions will look out of whack. If you have questions about your cummerbund placement, ask Belmeade for guidance when you pick up your rented tuxedo and accessories.

When pants sag or a jacket doesn’t button, there’s no question – that suit doesn’t fit.

However, there are a few subtler signs that a suit isn’t right for your body type. Let’s look beyond obvious clothing concerns and learn how to tell if a suit fits, so that it looks fabulous to you and onlookers both. After all, you want to stand out in all those formal photos for the right reasons, not for a wardrobe malfunction.

                                                                                                      Sizing Up That Jacket

The writers at Esquire know a thing or two about looking sharp in a suit. They remind wearers to look for jackets with shoulder pads that end at the edge of the shoulder. If the pads are too big, and round over the curve of the shoulder, you’ll end up looking bulky and out of fashion.

No shoulder pads? No problem! The fabric should lie flat with the seam on top of your shoulder where it meets your arm, not over the arm itself or hugging the collarbone. If you notice any ripples or bunching, the jacket isn’t fitting well.

Moving down the jacket, when it’s buttoned, you should easily be able to slip a flattened right hand under the lapel and rest it over your heart. If you’re struggling, the jacket is too tight. If you can make a fist comfortably, you likely need a smaller size jacket or it needs to be taken in.

Peek at the top button of the jacket. Is it resting above your navel? Perfect! If it falls below, have the jacket tailored to sit higher on the abdomen. When you stand relaxed with your hands at your sides, your knuckles should align with the bottom hem of the jacket.

Finally, the jacket’s sleeves should end between the base of your thumb and wrist with 1/4″ to 1/2″ of dress shirt showing, if wearing long sleeves.

Do you need assistance picking out a suit for a special occasion? Stop by Belmeade Men’s Wear in Johnson City for personalized service.

After fastening the pants, give them a look over.

There should be a smooth flow of fabric over your rear end, down to your upper thighs. Bunching, draping, U-shape puckers, or horizontal creases below the round part of the rear mean the pants just don’t fit, according to the Art of Manliness.

As you go down the legs of the pants, you may notice a sleek line (slim fit suits) or a wider cut in a more traditional style. Both are fine as long as the fabric lies flat. You don’t want bunching (too long) or clinging (too tight).

At the bottom of the pants you will find a hem. When standing, this should rest on the top of your shoe with a slight indent or fold. At the back of the pants, be sure the hem rests above the heel of the shoe. Your socks shouldn’t be visible until you are seated – or showing off wild dance moves.

As you figure out how to tell if a suit fits, practice walking, sitting and standing. You might be surprised to find that the jacket feels snug or pants bunch when in one position and not the others. Let your formal wear professional know so they can make adjustments for your comfort.

Let Belmeade Men’s Wear help with either rentals or a purchase for your next event.

You know chamberlains wear tuxes or suits, but what about the style, color, and accessories? We’ve got the inside scoop on teen male fashion and making these young men look like a million bucks at the blow-out birthday bash of the year.

                                                                                                        tuxedo rentals

Belmeade Men’s Wear – We’ve got suits and tuxes in every style the guys could ever want.

There’s a good chance the upcoming quinceañera is one of the first times a chamberlain has slipped into formalwear. Make the process exciting by planning a group outing with the guys to the tux shop, followed by pizza at their favorite weekend hangout.

The process of getting measured and fitted will be a new experience, so remind them they’re like celebrities getting ready for the Oscars. Grab some snaps that the guys can share later on Instagram!

As you get started, keep these two tips in mind: All the guys need to match and they should show off their personal style. If the teens want to wear red sneakers with tuxes, let them. If they opt for mohawks to show solidarity, encourage it. Just make sure the birthday girl is also onboard with the uncommon fashion choices. This celebration is all about her, after all!

Suit or Tux? Choose the type of formalwear based on the vibe of the celebration.

Either one goes. A beach party calls for soft linen suits. A ballroom extravaganza screams black-tie tux all the way.

Classic chamberlains wear 6-piece formal slim-fit tuxes with narrow lapels on the jacket and straight-leg pants, all in jet black or crisp white, so they don’t upstage their beautiful date.

Don’t want to go with tradition? Trends this year find chamberlains donning shimmery metallic suits. Fabric with a silver or copper sheen lights up the dance floor. If you want to get more eclectic, try crushed velvet or tweed for a retro style quince.

Two trends are hot: classic button-ups and novelty T-shirts.

Let the guys pick what makes them feel powerful. Choosing superhero tees or crisp cotton shirts in a bold hue to match the lady of the day both look awesome on camera.

How About Accessories? Going formal? Guys try on vests, cummerbunds and fancy rental dress shoes. The teens could also pull off top hats and canes for an old-school vibe.

Love a preppy style? Pageboy hats and quirky patterned pocket squares are just the things. The key is to show off the guys’ personalities!

Silk neck scarves, steampunk pocket watches, and boutonnières can be added to any look to jazz it up.

What About Shoes? Most teens opt for something modern and casual rather than classic loafers.

Let the guys browse their options or splurge on some new kicks. As long as they’re comfy, the chamberlains will be happy. Cowboy boots? Sure! Just give ’em a polish first.

Let Belmeade Men’s Wear help with either rentals or a purchase for your next event.

If you want to make the most of your next formal event, here are some tips and tricks for finding and implementing the perfect hair style.

                                                                                                          tuxedo rental for weddings

                                                                                                          Research, Research, Research

Just like in school, you can’t really expect to get anywhere if you don’t research a few ideas before hand. Guaranteed, you will not suddenly get inspiration the night of your event while you’re hovering over the sink with a can of mousse in one hand and a comb in the other. So, to avoid this dilemma, make sure you do a little bit of research into the hairstyle you want to rock during your next formal event.

Get a Haircut Before the Event

Once you’ve decided how you want your do to look, head to a barber or salon and get your hair cleaned up. It might also be a good idea to share your idea with hair stylist, too; they might be able to gear your haircut toward your planned style and offer you some tips on how to best accomplish the look.

Don’t Be Afraid of Some Product …

This tip is especially pertinent for high schoolers headed to a formal event like prom. Your hair should match your look. You don’t want to put on a nicely pressed tux when your hair looks like you just rolled out of bed. Put a little bit of styling products in your hair to help tame your otherwise rowdy locks.

… But Don’t Overdo It With the Gels and Sprays

While you shouldn’t shy away from a little bit of product, you should also be aware that a little bit goes a long way. If you’re using gel, for example, start with a little pebble in your palm and work up from there. The idea is for the product to keep your hair in place, not to gel your coif into a rock-hard shell.

Experiment in the Days Leading Up to Your Event

Most importantly, be sure to try different things in the week or two before your event. Get silly. Get experimental. Try something you think would never work for you. You might be surprised at the happy accidents you have. Plus, there’s nothing wrong with a little practice before the main event.

No matter what your hairstyle, Belmeade Men’s Wear has a complete selection of tuxedos that are designed to compliment your personal style. You can even mix and match with our Build-a-Tux feature to ensure that you always get the right color, fit, and general look for your next big formal event.

If you’re going for a retro or hipster vibe at your special event, fill the room with a sea of bow ties and suspenders. They instantly add personality to a formal wear look and can be worn by men in tuxedos or women in tailored suits. Ready to add a fresh look to your special day?

Here’s how to wear bow ties and suspenders with formal wear!

                                                                                                            full tuxedo rentals

Suspenders: Show Off Or Hidden Away?

First, let’s chat a little bit about the unsung hero of formal wear: suspenders. These stretchy, adjustable straps are critical for keeping pants in place during important events. After all, nobody wants to accidentally show off their undergarments during a wedding dance or when posing for prom photos, right?

If the wearer is tall and slender, go with a narrow strap. Bigger guys and gals should opt for wider suspenders. As you browse suspender options, you’ll notice some clamp to pants, while others have buttons and loops that are secured and hidden in the waistband of pants.

Suspenders are simple to wear. Simply attach them to the front of your pants in front of each hip bone and in the center at the back of your pants, then pull the straps up over your shoulders. Ditch the belt – you don’t need one with suspenders. Adjust the suspenders so they feel snug, but aren’t bunching your formal wear shirt.

Can suspenders be worn without a jacket? Of, course!  Usually, this style is best reserved for semi-casual events or after a formal event cuts loose, like the late-night dance at a wedding reception.

                                                                                                            The Smart, Sweet Bow Tie

Top off the look with a perfectly placed bow tie in the center of a crisp, buttoned collar. Whether you opt for a clip-on option or tie it yourself, you really can’t go wrong as long as it’s balanced and snug enough to stay in place.

Choosing a bow tie opens up a world of options! Think of it much like a pocket square or vest. The color and pattern of the bow tie can match these other accessories, coordinate with the style of the suspenders or stand out on its own.

For weddings, we love the idea of a groom’s bow tie highlighting the color of the bride’s dress. If it’s a same-sex wedding, the couple can pick bow tie colors that set them apart from the colors their attendants are wearing. For formal events like quinceañeras, anniversary parties, or awards ceremonies, matching the bow tie to the date’s outfit creates a unified couple’s look.

You can wear suspenders and a bow tie to any event where you plan to wear a suit or tuxedo. These accessories are just one more way to add a little character to your look, flaunt your personal style and tie into the colors or theme of an event. Ready to customize a formal wear look? In the life of a young Jewish boy, few celebrations are more important than his bar mitzvah. Planning for a bar mitzvah can be years in the making, but your hard work will soon be paid off in a beautiful commemoration of your son’s transition to adulthood.

As you begin to countdown the last few months to the big day, here’s a list of things you’ll need to accomplish leading up to the bar mitzvah.

                                                                                                              belmeade suit rental

                                                                                                              Eight Months Out

If you haven’t booked a venue, now’s the time. You should also think about booking hotel rooms for your traveling guests.

This is also when you should start shopping for clothes. Any thirteen-year-old boy is going to be a little finicky about how he looks on the day of his bar mitzvah, so you’ll want to leave plenty of time for making your final decisions. With our one-of-a-kind Build-a-Tux option, Jim’s Formal Wear is a great place to begin your search.

                                                                                                              Four Months Out

Start thinking about finalizing your party preparations. Figure out who you’d like to invite and order the invitations. Make sure to pick up some party favors for your teenage guests. You might also want to consider getting a guest book and ordering some kippahs for those guests who may not bring their own.

                                                                                                              Two Months Out

Mail your invitations at least two months before the ceremony; you might even want to send them to out-of-state guests sooner to allow them time to plan. If you’re renting a tuxedo, go ahead and finalize those arrangements. When you’re working with Jim’s Formal Wear, booking the perfect tux is a breeze.

You should also get your son involved in the process by having him create a song playlist for his bar mitzvah.

                                                                                                              Two Weeks Before the Event

                                                                                                                Three Months before Prom

Start saving money. You want to have enough to cover costs that range from your tuxedo rental to her corsage. Other expenses include prom tickets, transportation, dinner, and random extras that may pop up along the way. Save part of your paycheck from your after-school job, and you’ll have more than enough to fully enjoy the evening.

Buy the tickets. Purchase your prom tickets as soon as they are available. Buying early ensures you have them in hand and don’t have to scramble on the big day. Some schools may limit the number of tickets available, so you want to buy early to secure your spot.

Ask your date. While you can wait a bit before asking your date, do it at least one month in advance. This gives the gal time to prepare and follow her own prom planning timeline. Even if you have a steady girlfriend, officially asking her to the prom is a romantic thing to do.

Rent your tuxedo. Spend time browsing different tuxedo styles to find the one that works best for you. Go ahead and schedule your rental early, and you’ll have one of the most important tasks already done!

                                                                                                                Two Months before Prom

Secure transportation. Whether you’re renting a limo, carpooling, or borrowing your pal’s car, make sure your vehicle choice is secured for the big night.

Order the flowers. Review different styles of boutonnieres for you and corsages for your date. Ask your date about the color of her dress so you can coordinate her corsage. While you don’t need to pick up the flowers until the day before or the day of the event, ordering them in advance ensures they’ll be ready.

                                                                                                                One Month before Prom

Make dinner reservations. Unless your prom includes a catered dinner at the event, choose a restaurant both you and your date can enjoy. Make reservations to secure your spot.

                                                                                                                One Week before Prom

Get a fresh haircut or trim. Since you’ll be all spruced up in a tux, you definitely want your hair neatly trimmed and groomed.

Gentlemen can never go wrong with something a little sparkly. Consider buying some earrings or a necklace that your future wife can wear on or after her big day.

Any item that identifies your future wife as “Mrs.” would be well-received.

Grooms can also set up a series of small gifts for their bride to be delivered throughout the day: coffee in the morning, a midday snack, and a bouquet of flowers right before the ceremony.

                                                                                                                  Suggestions for Him

Nothing says old-school cool like a watch or pocket watch to go along with your future husband’s finery.

Get a pair of cufflinks that sport the logo of his favorite sports team or comic book character.

Many future husbands will also appreciate a few high-quality cigars or a bottle of expensive liquor that they can share with their friends after the ceremony.

Give Him the Best Wedding Gift Ever

We can incorporate his camo dream into your wedding with class.

The Camouflage Tuxedo combines just the right amount of outdoorsman with a truly classic tuxedo look. Your wedding day is quickly approaching! While most eyes will be on the bride’s walk down the aisle, her eyes will be on you. You’ll want to ensure she remembers your wedding style… from this day forward. And now more than ever, grooms have the flexibility to make their wedding day tuxedo or suit their own. It’s not just about a plain, black tux anymore. Feel free to choose a tuxedo or suit that complements you and your bride’s style. Here are four quick ways to upgrade your wedding style:

                                                                                                                      Find the Right Fit

Your wedding day will likely feel more like a marathon than a sprint, so you’ll want to be comfortable in the fit of your tuxedo or suit. For a more modern look, choose a slim fit style for your wedding party. The slimmer lapels and narrower body will offer a flattering silhouette for every man in your party – including those guys that wear big and tall sizes. If slim fit styles aren’t your thing… Jim’s Formal Wear offers modern or traditional fit tuxedos and suits as well. You can take your pick!

Tony Bowls Slim Fit Genesis Tuxedo

Fabrics that Feel as Good as They Look

Let’s face it guys; what’s better than a long embrace from your bride-to-be. She’ll love the way your first hug as husband and wife feels when you’re wearing a finer fabricated tuxedo. Choose an upgraded fabric like Super 130’s or Super 100’s versus worsted wool for your wedding tuxedo. You’ll feel more comfortable in the lightweight fabric. And, the feel will be amazing… for both you and the bride.

Planning a beach wedding or a garden locale for your nuptials? Choose a tangray or slate blue tuxedo or suit to accentuate your wedding style. Think about a white dinner jacket for your summer wedding. Or, choose a charcoal gray or chocolate tux for your fall wedding. Don’t be afraid to think outside the proverbial black tuxedo box.

Most prom dates pick out their outfits with each other in mind by coordinating the colors of tuxedo vests, ties, and pocket squares with dresses, corsages, and shoes. If one of you has a cool car, polish it until it shines and ride in style. Or, consider borrowing a family member’s classic car, renting a limo to share with friends, or riding on something a little uncommon like a motorcycle, truck, farm tractor, or horse-drawn wagon. Keep your date’s dress and shoe choice in mind when making transportation plans!

Some teens go to their favorite fast food restaurant all dolled up and dine on everyday pizza and tacos while others make reservations at the fanciest restaurant in town and splurge on a gourmet feast. Go wherever you’ll be the most comfortable and enjoy the meal. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to picking what food sounds good.

During your time at prom, take goofy photos, request your favorite song, slow dance with your date, mingle with other groups of classmates, and thank the chaperones for helping with the event. Finally, opt for the formal prom photos. They may feel awkward at the time, but you’ll be glad to have them years later!

Your sweetheart popped the question, and you said “Yes!”. After celebrating your engagement with friends and family, it’s time to get down to business. Planning a same sex-wedding requires you to pick out your favorite music, ceremony readings, flowers, and tablecloths. With all the small details to focus on, you may forget to think about one big thing – what you and your future spouse are going to wear! Here are some tips for planning out the formal wear for your same sex wedding.

                                                                                                                      Here Come the Brides

                                                                                                                      same sex wedding flowers

When two ladies get to take the spotlight, you need to decide the type of formal wear you both feel the most comfortable wearing. Should you both don wedding dresses, tuxes, or one of each? There’s no right or wrong decision. Go with what you love!

If you both decide to wear dresses, consider not having them match. Each gown should reflect the personality and style of the woman wearing it. So if a knee-length party dress in blush is what your bride wants, and you picture yourself in a sweeping, snow white ball gown, go for it.

Have you always dreamed of a chic black and white affair complete with polished tuxedos? We love the elegance of slim fit suits. They’re tailored to fit any body type, with less draping, so you look and feel fabulous. If you choose to wear matching tuxedos, pick a style that varies from the bridal party, with your own custom colored vests and ties.

Finally, coordinate your looks with accessories. Add a pop of color to dresses with matching sashes or pin identical boutonnieres onto tux lapels. You can also unite your styles by wearing similar jewelry, top hats, cufflinks, or veils.

                                                                                                                      It’s Grooms Times Two

                                                                                                                      smae sex wedding grooms cheer

You know you’re going to look amazing in whatever you wear, so make a choice and fall in love with it. It’s not unheard of for some males to go all out on their wedding day and be the blushing brides they want to be! If you want to wear layers of fluffy taffeta and 6-inch glittery heels, do it!

If you feel more comfortable sporting a masculine look, a pair of matching tuxedos makes a bold statement of unity. The grooms’ tuxedos should differ in style from the other wedding party members to avoid blending in. If you don’t want to be too matchy-matchy with one another, each groom can wear his favorite color (or patterned) vest and tie.

Are you planning a same-sex wedding? Are tuxedos on the wish list? That’s why it’s so rewarding to hear from our happy customers. Take, for instance, the rare problem that was facing Janette Johnson, the mother of triplet boys who were all headed to prom. Facing the dilemma of getting the perfect tux times three without breaking the bank, Janette visited one of our San Antonio locations with her boys, Jacob, Jordan, and Joshua.

Finding All the Right Looks in One Place

As teenage boys, of course, each one wanted something a little bit different. Fortunately, Jim’s Formal Wear can help you build the perfect tux, whether you want to shine brightly in a gold bow tie and vest or you prefer the classic look of a long, black tie and crimson vest. On top of that, our friendly, skilled sales team knows how to meet your needs from top to bottom.

That expertise was put on full display for Janette Johnson and her triplets. The result was better than she could have hoped for! In fact, Janette was so pleased that she made a direct call to our Jim’s Formal Wear President, Steve Davis.

In her message, Janette expressed her joy at the result. She said each of her boys was thrilled with their tuxes, calling them comfortable and exclaiming that every item was “pressed and fit perfectly.” Paired with some exquisite shots from San Antonio-based photographer Mindy Carlettini, the Johnson triplets certainly cut a dashing figure in each of their individual tuxedos.

More than anything, it seemed that Janette was eager to let the world know that she and her boys had such a wonderful experience and she promised to visit Jim’s again for any other formal wear needs.

I can still remember a corporate buying seminar from a few short years ago when our company decided to purchase and add a camouflage vest to our formalwear line. All of our management teams are involved in the decision-making process and the seminar is a big event for us. At the time, it was easy to choose tuxedos and colorful vests to add to our lineup as we keep pretty good tabs on what our customers are asking for. However, some of us were hesitant to cast our votes for a camouflage vest.

We asked ourselves, “Is this look even considered formal? Does it belong with a tuxedo? Are people going to wear it?” Well, a few years later, we have now come to the conclusion we shouldn’t have hesitated at all because our camouflage vest has turned out to be very popular with our retailers and end-consumers!

Fullback Camouflage Tuxedo Vest and Tie

The first camouflage vest added to our formal wear line was a forest green pattern which is available and shown here with a matching Windsor tie and pocket square

At that seminar, we decided to offer a vest in a green camouflage pattern by Mossy Oak. It is available with a matching Windsor tie, bow tie and a coordinating pocket square.

The vest became quite popular with wedding couples who were planning camouflage or hunting-themed weddings. We found some couples will rent a more traditional fullback vest pattern in a specific color to match their wedding’s theme and then also rent the camouflage fullback vest for the guys to wear to the evening’s reception.

And for proms and homecomings, the camouflage fullback vest is also popular. It’s worn by young gentleman who likely consider hunting as one of their hobbies and are looking for a very unique look for their prom tuxedo.

Fast-forward to today and we have added a new camouflage fullback vest pattern in white, also with a matching Windsor tie or bow tie and a coordinating pocket square.

White camouflage fullback vest with a coordinating bow tie

When a camouflage-themed wedding is being planned, we are expecting the white camo vest may be chosen for the groom while the green camo may be worn by the groomsmen. We’re anxious to see how creative our retailers and consumers get with this pair of unique vests…

The popularity of the camouflage vest in our accessory line reminds us of something very important: A wedding is a very personal event for a bride and groom and the attire worn during that day should reflect their personal tastes whether their attire is ultra-formal or not. It is our goal to have the tuxedos and accessories they want!

You may want to add a Camo tux, style 882, to the ensemble.  Use Jim’s ‘Tuxedo Builder” to mix and match styles and accessories at www.jimsformalwear.com!

Olivia + Justin chose the picturesque ski town of Crested Butte, Colorado to serve as the backdrop for their September wedding. With the stunning scenery perfectly complementing the nature-inspired decor, all eyes were on the bride and groom. Olivia opted for a flowing lace gown, while Justin wore a Michael Kors Navy Sterling Wedding Suit with a wine tie and pocket square.

Since the couple opted to not have a wedding party, the contemporary style and fit of the Navy Sterling Wedding suit by Michael Kors was the perfect choice for the groom to stand out from guests.

bride pinning the boutonniere on the lapel of the groom

The lightweight wool fabric of the suit was the perfect choice for the crisp early-fall mountain air.

We’ve all been there. You receive an invitation to be a guest at a wedding, and while the invite clearly lays out the who, when and where, you’re left guessing what to wear. Use these helpful guidelines to know what to wear when attending everything from a formal white tie affair to a more casual wedding.

                                                                                                                      White Tie Invited

The most formal type of attire for a wedding is White Tie Invited, so you should adhere to the rules on this one.

Men should wear a black tailcoat, a white formal shirt, and a white pique vest and bow tie. Black formal shoes and even white gloves are appropriate.

Ladies should wear a formal, full-length evening gown in neutral colors like black or navy.

                                                                                                                      Black Tie Invited

Black Tie Invited is the next most formal type of affair, and the guidelines are fairly straight-forward for the men.

A black tuxedo and matching trousers are appropriate. Gentlemen should accessorize with a black tie and matching black vest or cummerbund. During the summer months or in warm-weather climates, a white dinner jacket and black tuxedo pants are also acceptable.

Women can choose to go a bit dressier with a formal floor length gown, or they can choose a short, dressy cocktail dress.

Berkeley Slim Fit Tuxedo by Michael Kors

Berkeley Slim Fit Tuxedo by Michael Kors

                                                                                                                      Black Tie Optional or Formal

This wording suggests something slightly less formal than black tie. While the event doesn’t require a tuxedo be worn, it is still formal enough for one to be appropriate.

Men should wear a tuxedo or a dark formal suit. White shirts and neutral colored ties are appropriate.

Ladies can choose a full-length gown, a dressy cocktail dress, or a dressy suit in neutral tones like black, grey or navy.

                                                                                                                      Semi-Formal

For a semi-formal wedding, you’ll want to dress somewhere between formal and casual depending on the time and location of the event. Wear darker, more formal colors for an evening event, and choose lighter colors and fabrics for daytime weddings.

Men should wear a suit and tie, dark or light depending on the season and the time of day.

Generally, the women’s dress length should be cocktail length – at or just below the knees, but maxi dresses or separates are also appropriate.

Michael Kors Navy Sterling Wedding Suit

Michael Kors Navy Sterling Wedding Suit

                                                                                                                      Beach Formal

Wedding guests should take into consideration the venue, weather and season when choosing attire for a beach wedding. Beach Formal suggests an elegant beach wedding, so dress to impress, but also dress for the elements. Bathing suits should not be worn (even under your attire) unless specifically requested.

Men can choose a summer suit with a colorful linen shirt, linen pants or khakis, and sandals. No ties are required, but bright, colorful ties or bowties would definitely add variety to your look.

Ladies can wear a sundress, casual maxi dress, or dress shirt and skirt. Flat shoes are a must, since you’ll likely be walking on uneven terrain.

Tan Havana Slim Fit Suit With Coral Plaid Bow Tie

Tan Havana Slim Fit Suit With Coral Plaid Bow Tie

                                                                                                                      Casual

A casual wedding held outdoors or on the beach is much more laid-back, especially when it comes to attire. With that being said, jeans, tank tops, and shorts are still likely a no-no unless the invite specifically calls them out. Assume business casual to be safe.

Men can’t go wrong with a nice button-down shirt with a tie and dress pants. Add a sport jacket if you choose, but you might also see men wearing polo shirts and dress pants.

For the ladies, a summer sundress or a skirt or pants with a nice blouse will do.

                                                                                                                      Colorful Bow Tie and Suspenders

Accessorize any ensemble with colorful bow ties and suspenders

While these guidelines should keep you from embarrassment on wedding day, if you have any questions about what’s appropriate attire for the upcoming nuptials, don’t be afraid to reach out to the bride or groom with questions.

With so many choices, they can also be a way to support your favorite sports team, thank your groomsmen for their service, or simply complete your formalwear look.

                                                                                                                      Cufflinks – Step 1:

With your shirt on, pinch the cuffs of your sleeve together so that the insides of both sides of the shirt sleeve are pressed together or “kissing”.

                                                                                                                      Pinched Sleeve of Tuxedo Shirt

Pinch the sleeve of the tuxedo shirt together

                                                                                                                      Cufflinks – Step 2:

Insert the cufflink through both holes in the shirt’s cuff. The colored, decorative part of the cufflink should face the outside when your arm is at your side.

Insert Cufflink Through Both Button Holes

Insert the cufflink through both button holes

                                                                                                                      Cufflinks – Step 3:

Depending on the cufflink style, you may need to secure the cufflink on the backside of the shirt’s cuff.

Bullet Back or Toggle Closure – The most common of all cufflink styles and the easiest to put on. This style has a bullet-shaped or narrow bar that is suspended between two posts. Prior to inserting it through the shirt’s sleeve holes, the bar should be flipped 90 degrees, so that it lines up with the posts. The bar is then flipped back to the horizontal position, securing the cufflink in place on the shirt.

Fixed Backing – Fixed backings are an extension of the cufflink. This means that the cufflink post and backing are one solid piece and are affixed to the decorative side of the cufflink. The backing does not bend or move in any way. The rounded backing may be a bit harder to insert through the shirt’s holes, but the non-moving parts make it more resilient in the long run.

                                                                                                                      Bullet Back Cufflink Closure

                                                                                                                      Bullet Back Closure

                                                                                                                      STUDS

                                                                                                                      Studs – Step 4:

Look for the stud hole next to each pearl button on the front of your tuxedo shirt. Insert the front or decorative side of the stud through the stud hole… starting from the inside of the shirt. You can ignore the pearl buttons found on your tuxedo shirt; they are not needed when wearing studs.

Insert Stud Through the Back Stud Hole

Insert the stud through the back stud hole.

                                                                                                                      Studs – Step 5:

Then, with the stud acting as a button, feed it through the font button hole on the formal shirt. This will secure the front closed. Repeat the process for all four studs.

Secure the Front of the Shirt Closed using the Stud

Secure the front of the shirt closed using the stud.

                                                                                                                      Stud Style

Although black is the traditional color for tuxedo jewelry, the color of your formal jewelry may vary depending on your choice of tuxedo or suit. Studs come in sets of four. If you’re wearing a bow tie with your tuxedo or suit, you should wear all four studs. However, if you choose to wear a windsor tie and vest with your tuxedo or suit, you may choose to skip wearing the studs, since they won’t be visible under the windsor tie.

A solid plan is vital to including an animal in any event, let alone your wedding. Make sure to check these items off your list far in advance of your wedding day.

                                                                                                                      Notify the Guests
While it might be tempting to surprise everyone with a special guest, take into consideration the likelihood that one or more of your guests will be allergic to dogs. Make an announcement on the wedding website or place an insert in the wedding invitation envelope to help spread the word.

Remember to check with the event venue to make sure dogs are allowed on the property.

The last thing you need on your wedding day is to be responsible for a dog. Whether you hire someone or ask a trusted friend, make sure your dog has supervision before, during, and after the ceremony.

                                                                                                                      Go to the Salon

Bring your dog to the wedding venue at least once before the ceremony. This way your dog will have familiarity with all the exciting new sights and smells! If you can include your dog in the rehearsal before the wedding, do it.

As near and dear your dog is to your heart, the fact remains: your dog is a dog. That means your dog may be prone to unexpected or troublesome behaviors like chasing a squirrel, or (gulp) relieving himself in the middle of the aisle.

You know your dog best, so be prepared for anything that could go wrong the day of the wedding. Equip your dog’s handler with a small bag stocked with items that can take care of potential issues. The handler should have:
                                                                                                                      – Doggie Bags
                                                                                                                      – Small Towel
                                                                                                                      – Moist Towelettes
                                                                                                                      – Dog Treats
                                                                                                                      – A secure leash, collar or harness
                                                                                                                      – A description of who to turn to should your dog get out of hand

Even if your dog acts like a perfect gentleman (or woman) throughout the ceremony, it’s better to be prepared than aghast if something unexpected happens. Your final tip is to enjoy, as weddings with dogs by their very nature are designed to be enjoyable events.

Prom night will likely be one of the highlights of your high school career. Make it a great night, and be prepared with our prom checklist.

                                                                                                                      Have a Plan

It’s a big night, and you’ll have more fun if everything goes smoothly. So first things first…ask a date as soon as you know the date of the event. Or, make plans to go with a group of friends to celebrate this memorable night.

Hire a limo, make dinner reservations, and decide where you and your friends should take pictures before the party starts. Let’s face it, you don’t always get dressed up, so you’ll want pictures to prove how great you look in your tuxedo.

And don’t forget to buy your tickets to the prom and after-prom party. Those are definitely a necessity!

Definitely come prepared with your date’s dress color, so you can either match or coordinate your tuxedo’s vest and tie with her ensemble. Whatever her dress color, we’ve got a match with thousands of accessory colors. Without a doubt, she’ll give you an A+ for effort.

Most importantly, choose a tuxedo ensemble that expresses your personal style. Whether you feel more comfortable in slim fit styles or traditional fits, we have several options to choose from. You can even bring it up a notch and select a less traditional colored tuxedo or suit such as graynavy, or tan.

                                                                                                                      Bring Her Flowers

What girl doesn’t like flowers? In this case, you’ll want to visit your local florist several weeks in advance, so they have time to prepare your date’s corsage. Be sure to let the florist know what color your date’s dress is along with the styling, so they can determine if a standard corsage or wrist corsage will work best.

                                                                                                                      Check Your Hygiene

Need I say more? Your date will undoubtedly spend the day of prom pampering herself with makeup and hair appointments. Give her the same respect. Get a haircut, cut your fingernails, shave, shower, deodorize, brush your teeth. You know, all those things your mom nags you about.

                                                                                                                      Use Your Manners

Not saying manners shouldn’t be a part of your daily routine, but kick it up a notch on this special occasion. Go to the door when you pick her up for the night. Open car doors, pull out her chair at the restaurant, and offer your arm when she walks down the stairs in her 3-inch heels. She’ll appreciate the effort you give at being her Prince Charming for the evening.

This great looking Navy suit is a classic for $179.95 without the vest, and for $229.99 with the matching vest. But, what does “nested” in the product description mean?  This suit comes with a pre-selected size for the pant waist.  The pant waist is the coat size minus 6 inches.  For example, if the coat is size 40 the standard nested difference is minus 6 to get the pant waist size of 34 inches.

The pants can be let out or taken up 1.5 inches with a needle and thread. So, if you can’t get to your pant waist size based on your coat size, you probably want to look at suits that are available as “separates”. Yes, Belmeade has both “nested”and “separates” available!

                                                                                                                      winter formal dance teenagers

You asked, and she said yes! Now it’s time to figure out what to wear to winter ball. You know the dress code is formal, but how does a winter ball compare to prom? For starters, it’s a cool-weather event, and your formalwear should reflect it. Bring on the thick, cozy fabrics, seasonal colors, and winter accessories.

                                                                                                                      Selecting a Suit Style

When browsing styles, consider heavier fabrics that will keep you warm during travel to and from the party and the dozens of outdoor pictures. We love tweeds, wool, and velvet for a special winter event. Avoid sheer linens and silks.

When choosing a thicker fabric, it’s best to go with a tailored suit that fits just right. A slim fit-style works on all body shapes because it ensures there’s no extra wrinkling or draping that may be unflattering.

                                                                                                                      Choosing a Suit Color

Go beyond the classic black prom look for winter ball. This season, try a fashion-forward color like steel gray, gray plaid, or navy blue. These darker tones fit perfectly with the season, but also make you stand out.

Coordinate your look with your date’s by choosing a tie or pocket square in the hue of her dress. Then, match your boutonniere with her corsage by using the same flower choices, wintry embellishments (like snowflake charms), and ribbons highlighting both your suit color and her dress.

                                                                                                                      Layering Your Look

Let’s talk about your dress shirt for a moment. This part is essential but often becomes an off-hand, secondary decision. You don’t have to wear a classic white shirt. Unless the invitation states black tie formal, you can vary your color palette.

Add personality by selecting a shirt in the same color family as your date’s dress. For example, if she’s wearing cranberry, you can wear plum. Is her dress black? You’d look sharp in silver. Play with your look as a couple to create picture perfect memories of your time at the winter ball together!

                                                                                                                      Adding on Accessories

When dressing for a winter event, layer the look. A draping overcoat and polished loafers or ankle boots complete the seasonal style.  If you like a bit of whimsy, a walking cane and top hat will give you an old-fashioned charm that makes heads turn. Winter is also the time to flaunt bold tie pins and sturdy cufflinks.

Do you need help putting together a look? Browse Jim’s Formal Wear to spark a few  polished, festive ideas for your winter ball.

                                                                                                                      Tweed

Timeless, classic tweed is always in fashion when it comes to picking out a suit. It’s best worn during cool weather, since it’s made of a heavy blend of a wool yarn. It’s naturally water-resistant and durable, making it a perfect choice for outdoor autumn and winter events.

                                                                                                                      Linen

If you’re planning a beach wedding or a causal homecoming look, a linen suit made from flax fibers is soft, flowing, and perfect for warm weather. The drawback? It can wrinkle easily if you’re traveling. So, keep linen suits on a hanger in a garment bag until it’s time to give it a final steaming before its big moment.

                                                                                                                      Velvet

                                                                                                                      best fabrics for suits velvet

If you’re looking for a fabric that’s extra warm and perfect for a plush winter holiday celebration or wedding, try velvet made from rayon or silk. It has a subtle, elegant sheen and creates a stunning dinner jacket or overcoat to top off your formalwear look for an event.

                                                                                                                      Wool

Choose a high-grade merino wool or cashmere-wool blend if you’re looking for the best fabric for suits. It keeps you warm in winter and wicks away moisture on warm autumn or spring days. Wool travels well, as it doesn’t wrinkle like cotton or linen.

                                                                                                                      Silk

                                                                                                                      best fabrics for suits silk

Soft, sheer silk is often flaunted in ties, vests, and pocket squares, but you can also see this eye-catching fabric in dress shirts and jacket linings. It’s smooth against sensitive skin, making it one of the most comfortable suit fabrics available.

                                                                                                                      Polyester

When you’re on a budget, but want a durable suit, look to polyester. It has a soft sheen, smooth texture and resists wrinkles making it a popular choice for proms, weddings and black-tie parties.

                                                                                                                      Cotton

Going for a relaxed look? A cotton suit is comfortable and has a looser drape than wool or polyester. The thin stripe of a seersucker cotton suit is perfect for a summer outdoor evening wedding or anniversary party dinner.

So, are you ready to start shopping? If you dream of dining on pizza and ice cream sundaes at the reception, do it! And, if you have your heart set on asking a favorite gal pal to stand in as your best man, don’t think twice. You’re customizing every aspect of your big day, so you should do exactly what you want.

When your best man is a woman — or more appropriately — your best woman, there are a few extra considerations you’ll want to take when choosing formalwear for the bridal party, drafting titles in your ceremony programs and deciding how to conduct your processional. Here’s a handy guide to personalize your wedding and make the day run smooth.

Include Your Best Woman With the Groomsmen

                                                                                                                      best woman with groomsmen

She should assume all the duties generally assigned to a best man, including standing with the groomsmen during the ceremony, planning the bachelor party and walking in the processional alongside the maid or matron of honor. Now when it comes to attending the bachelor party, let her decide. Does she feel more comfortable going for a guys night out or joining the bride and maids for the bachelorette party? She can do one, or both!

Don’t Assume Your Best Woman Wants to Tag Along With the Girls

Chances are, the best woman is best friends with the groom. There’s no reason to ask her to hang out with the bridal party if she isn’t already friends with them. Dress fittings, bridal showers and hair appointments with strangers might make her feel out of place. If she’s more comfortable hanging with the guys, that’s totally fine.

Let Her Choose Her Wedding Day Attire

                                                                                                                      best woman formal wear

As the best woman standing next to the groomsmen, your lady of honor has a few choices when it comes to formalwear. If she’s most comfortable in a tuxedo, there are female styles made to fit her perfectly. Choose accessories that coordinate with the groomsmen, or have her match the maid of honor if she is wearing something different than the bridesmaids. If your best woman prefers a dress, she can match the colors of the groomsmen, maid of honor or bridesmaids.

Although the phrase “best woman” is pretty popular, it’s your ceremony. Give people whatever labels you want. She can be your best dude, grooms-woman, grooms-person or even the groom’s honor attendant. Talk to her about what title she likes and run with it. As long as you both are happy with the final decision, that’s all that matters.

                                                                                                                      best woman photographer

It’s pretty common to give your wedding day photographer a list of the bridal party attendees, so no one is left out of large group poses. Take an extra moment to let the photographer know where your best woman should be placed — with the men or the women — when doing specific groupings. Most photographers work through a list of posed shots weeks before the wedding, so you won’t have to carve out extra time on the big day.

Finally, what if both the bride and the groom have someone special in mind to serve as the best man or best woman? You can have two people stand up for the groom in the ‘best’ position.  If you do, consider having two maids of honor to balance the flow of the bridal party. It’s not uncommon for couples who have several siblings to have multiple honorable attendees in their bridal party. If you want to give more than one person a prestigious title at your wedding, do it! That’s the bonus of it being your day.

Even your pocket square is folded perfectly and making notice in your jacket pocket. So when you sit down and the hem of your pants lift, you better not be showing off a pair of tacky white gym socks. Yes, your socks need to be fashionable, too.

For a subtler approach, choose solid or patterned socks in neutrals, such as black, navy blue, gray or beige. Try to coordinate with the color of your pants, so when someone gets a glimpse of your socks, they blend with your overall look.

                                                                                                                      Do…
For a more vibrant statement, choose colorful socks. Don’t be shy. Coordinating the color of your socks with the formal accessories of your tuxedo or suit is perfectly acceptable and a smart fashion statement. Wearing a turquoise vest and tie? Well, why shouldn’t your socks be turquoise, too? We offer a bunch of sock colors that sync up nicely with many of our most popular tie and vest colors.

Your everyday white socks should stay in the dresser drawer. Reserve them for your morning run or visits to the gym. Tuxedo pants, suit pants and white socks never go together, ever. Don’t even think about it!

                                                                                                                      Do…
Pick out socks with a smooth, uniform texture. The ribbing that you see on your everyday socks or athletic socks does not look good tucked inside formal or dress shoes. They will often bunch at the heel and be too thick to make the shoes feel comfortable.

FOR A MORE VIBRANT STATEMENT, CHOOSE COLORFUL SOCKS. DON’T BE SHY. COORDINATING THE COLOR OF YOUR SOCKS WITH THE FORMAL ACCESSORIES OF YOUR TUXEDO OR SUIT IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE AND A SMART FASHION STATEMENT…

                                                                                                                      Don’t…
Going commando in your shoes is tacky, even if you prefer to be barefoot 90 percent of the time. Dressy occasions call for socks. Please wear them! Plus, socks keep foot discomfort to a minimum.

                                                                                                                      Do…
Select a sock that is mid-calf in height. Footies, ankle socks or knee-highs look awkward with formal wear. Showing skin below your pant cuff is a no-no.

                                                                                                                      Don’t…
Steer clear of dress socks made from synthetic fabrics, such as nylon, rayon, polyester and acrylic as they don’t allow your skin to breathe. Instead opt for natural fibers such as cotton, wool or silk. The socks we offer for purchase through your nearest Jim’s Formal Wear Retailer are made almost entirely of cotton. Very cool and comfortable to wear.

Choose colors that coordinate with non-traditional tuxedo accessories like suspenders. Most formal events are infrequent so you get one good shot to create a formal look you will remember and be remembered for. You’re crazy to overlook the impact of a cool pair of socks!

                                                                                                                      March 29, 2016

A barn can be the perfect setting for your country chic wedding. Today, outdoor weddings at a farm or in a barn setting are taking place all over the country, and they offer the bride and groom a very unique and intimate location for their nuptials and reception.

Here are 5 ways to keep your rustic wedding charming and classy:

                                                                                                                      1. Choose the Perfect Venue

Country settings are fairly prevalent these days, but don’t discount the importance of a professional vendor when choosing the venue. Hiring an established wedding venue can limit the amount of extra work (and stress) you add to your wedding plans. Opt for a venue location with experience in holding weddings or formal events.

                                                                                                                      Rustic Wedding Tuxedo

Slate Blue Aspen Slim Fit Tuxedo by Stephen Geoffrey

                                                                                                                      2. Plan for Parking

Most barn weddings are hosted in rural settings, surrounded by grass and dirt. Parking should be a consideration for the amount of guests you’ll have in attendance. If space is lacking or you think your guests will have a difficult time walking the terrain in their wedding attire, consider hiring a bus to shuttle guests to and from the venue.

                                                                                                                      3. Secure Your Rentals

If you’re marrying at a venue that normally hosts weddings or formal events, it’s likely that they will offer rentals for all the necessary items: tables, chairs, linens, cutlery, etc. Check with the venue’s party planner for details on pricing and availability. Basic items may already be included in the price of the venue rental. Speak to your caterer to find out their needs, too, since they’ll be tasked with serving your guests in the space provided.

If you plan to marry in a barn that normally houses livestock or grain, you’ll have additional items to consider. Think generators for lights and bathrooms. Make a list of items you’ll need and start your research early. Having a plan will help the day run smoothly.

Classic black dominates the red carpet this season. Think sleek, classic black suits, black bow ties, black pocket squares, black vests, black polished shoes, and black socks. To show off your style, consider choosing the dark hue with a touch of texture in the vest or a side-stripe pant. This look pairs well with white or black shirts.

                                                                                                                      Layer Casuals Under Jackets

                                                                                                                      mens suit trends shirts

You’ll notice classic button-up dress shirts are being replaced with more laid-back options this year. T-Shirts, thick cable knit sweaters, sheer cashmere and patterned vests without shirts are popping up under suit jackets.

As a contrast, the Spring 2018 menswear collections are also full of splashes of color. Opt for a blue suit, and accessorize with bright or pastel ties, pocket squares, and socks. If you love color, wear it with pride in 2018!

                                                                                                                      Choose a Slender Fit

Tailored formal wear shines over draping cuts. We love the ultra slim and slim fit suits. They don’t add bulk to your frame and make every man look polished. This year these slim cuts are popular in sterling grey and navy blue.

                                                                                                                      Slip into Creative Footwear

If you’re a shoe guy, this is the year to flaunt whatever makes you smile. The runways have seen suits paired with flashy cowboy boots (worn over slim-cut pants), soft moccasin style flats and color-contrasting sneakers. This is your chance to wear red kicks with a blue suit!

                                                                                                                      Dazzle in Uncommon Fabrics

Move over, polyester. Luxurious fabrics are hot for 2018. Expect to see velvet make a resurgence in addition to silk, wool, and satin. You can find these fabrics in whole suits, or as insets in lapels, side-striped pants, or vests.

                                                                                                                      Wear High-Waist Pants

Finally, the cut of men’s suit pants is rising. Expect to see some that fall several inches above the waistline, often paired with suspenders for a 1920s look. This yesteryear style is paired with an open jacket to show off the pant details.

Are you ready to find the perfect suit for your 2018 event? Browse the latest men’s suit trends with Belmeade Formal Wear at :  https://www.Belmeademenswear.com.

                                                                                                                      The Term “Slim Fit” Defined
So your formal event is just around the corner and you’re looking for a tuxedo or suit rental to wear. Wanting to find an ensemble that’s very much in style, you find the term “slim fit” regularly shows up in your online research. Your first thought might be that “Slim Fit,” means a tight-fitting, uncomfortable ensemble that might lead to an unpleasant rental experience and a generally unpleasant day. This is totally untrue!

Rather, think of a slim fit tux or suit this way: While it’s true less fabric is used in the tailoring of a slim fit ensemble, the cuts are generous enough to provide a very comfortable fit. And since a slim fit is going to fit closer to your natural body shape, the result is a flattering look that accentuates your form and looks similar to an expensive, tailored-to-fit ensemble.

Slim Fit Tuxedo Black Michael Kors

Dashing and Debonair: The Michael Kors Ultra Slim Fit Berkeley Tuxedo

EVERY GUY CAN BENEFIT FROM THE CONTEMPORARY SLIM FIT LOOK; IT WILL ENHANCE AND FLATTER THEIR PHYSIQUE.

Another concern guys sometimes have is assuming a slim fit style will not work for their body type if they are not skinny. This is also untrue. Slim fit styles may be worn by lots of body types. Every guy can benefit from the contemporary slim fit look; it will enhance and flatter their physique. And, that’s a good thing!

Slim Fit Wedding Suit Grey Michael Kors

Cut a slim silhouette with the Michael Kors Ultra Slim Fit Steel Grey Sterling

Now that we have those two concerns put to bed, here’s what you need to know about the Slim Fit and Ultra Slim Fit Tuxedos and Suits available for rental from Jim’s Formal Wear:

What are Slim Fit Tuxedos and Suits Like?
Remember, slim fit tuxedos and suits are simply tailored using less fabric. This means both the jacket and pants are going to fit closer to your body without constricting your movement.

Slim Fit Tuxedo Blue Like Behar

The Ultra Slim Cobalt Blue Tribeca by Ike Behar is hugely popular for weddings.

                                                                                                                      About the Slim Fit Jacket:

                                                                                                                      1. The shoulders of any slim fit jacket will sit nicely at the edge of your shoulder rather than drooping over the edge, which is a sure sign of a poorly-fitted jacket.
                                                                                                                      2. The torso of the jacket will taper from the shoulders to the waist giving you that classic ‘v-shaped’ look.
                                                                                                                      3. The length of the jacket will be slightly shorter than other fits.
                                                                                                                      4. The lapels of any slim fit tuxedo or suit will be slightly narrower to complement the narrower cut of the jacket.

                                                                                                                      About the Slim Fit Trousers:

                                                                                                                      1. Coordinating slim fit trousers will have a flat front, not a pleated front.
                                                                                                                      2. Slim fit trouser legs will taper gently towards your ankles.
                                                                                                                      3. Slim fit trousers typically have a minimal break at the bottom, if any, and can be ordered as such to suit your taste.

The gentlemen in your wedding party can enjoy a flattering slim fit with the Michael Kors Steel Grey Sterling

Wait, what about Ultra Slim Fit?
You’ll notice Ultra Slim Fit Tuxedos and Suits are found on our website as well. Ultra Slim tuxedos and suits are, you guessed it, slimmer companion styles to slim fits. Confused? Don’t be. JFW offers four styles that are available in BOTH slim fit and ultra slim fit cuts. These include the Michael Kors Berkeley Tuxedo and the Michael Kors Sterling Suits in blacknavy and steel grey. These styles can guarantee your entire wedding party will coordinate and look great in either slim fit or ultra slim fit. As of right now, Ultra Slim is only available with our Michael Kors collection.

If you know your entire wedding party would enjoy the ultra slim fit look, there are three styles on our site from designer Ike Behar. The Grey Plaid Hamilton is a very attractive and sophisticated style especially when worn with its matching fullback vest. If you have your heart set on blue – which is a very popular color in men’s tuxedos and suits right now – see the Cobalt Blue Tribeca. And, if you want to flirt with a James Bond vibe, the White Waverly will turn heads. These styles are ultra slim fit only and do not have a slim fit companion style.

THE SLIM FIT LOOK IS UNQUESTIONABLY ON TREND RIGHT NOW AND SHOWING NO SIGNS OF GOING AWAY ANY TIME SOON. IT’S THE LOOK YOU WANT IF BEING FASHIONABLE AND STYLISH AT YOUR FORMAL EVENT IS A PRIORITY.

How to Accessorize Slim Fit Tuxedos and Suits
                                                                                                                      Shirts:

Since you are wearing a slim or ultra slim fit tuxedo or suit in the first place, you should choose a fitted shirt. The best choice is the Fitted Microfiber Shirt. Not only will it fit well and be comfortable, its trimmer cut will match the silhouette of your slim fit jacket.

                                                                                                                      Microfiber Formal Shirt

A microfiber formal shirt complements your ensemble and is quite comfortable to wear

                                                                                                                      Shoes:

If you could spend every single minute of the day dreaming, planning, and prepping for your wedding, you would. But, if your fiancé doesn’t feel the same way, don’t stress! Some guys just don’t get as excited about some of the little details that women swoon over.

If you’d like to see your fiancé participate more in the planning, why not give your husband-to-be some tasks you know he will enjoy? (And leave the rest to tackle with the girls!)

Do you plan to offer a signature cocktail or array of craft brews at your reception? Organize a meeting with the bartender and invite the best man and groomsmen to join. Turn the tasting into an excuse to enjoy an evening out with the guys while you check one more item off your to-do list.

Groom and Bride Standing Next to Luxury Car

If you want to exit the wedding ceremony in style, let your fiancé pick the ride. Whether he chooses a limo, vintage racecar or decked-out monster truck, he’ll be happy that he gets a say in this non-frilly wedding day decision.

Pro-tip: Remind him that you need to be able to enter and exit the car with ease, especially if you’re wearing tall heels, a mermaid dress, or a full ball gown.

                                                                                                                      Embellishing Those Tuxes

Captain America Graphic Tee Shirt Under Wedding Tuxedo

While you should plan the menswear look together as a couple, let your groom pick out all the extras. If he wants each guy to wear a superhero T-shirt under his tuxedo, let him shop for them. Or, if the guys plan to wear sneakers instead of traditional wedding footwear, have him pick them out. Encourage him to get creative!

Think beyond the wedding day and put the groom on honeymoon duty. While planning out the entire trip is probably best done together, he can browse travel sites at home on the couch, saving you hours of time. Ask him to narrow down his top three destinations or travel packages, so you can make the final choice together.

Your DJ, live band or soloist will want a detailed list of your musical choices. Give your hubby-to-be free rein to brainstorm a list of song titles he’d like to hear at the reception or during a cocktail hour. As you go through the list together, pick the favorites for your special dances.

Getting the groom in on the wedding planning action isn’t as tough as it seems. Delegate the tasks that you know he will enjoy and savor the rest of the outings with your female family members and friends.

Also, make sure to check out the Jim’s Formal Wear Event Manager. winter wedding tuxedo

Before you know it, your winter wedding day will be here! You’ve found the perfect dress for yourself, and the bridesmaids are starting alterations on their gowns. Now, it’s time to make some final decisions on your winter wedding tuxedos for the men in your wedding party. From the groom to the groomsmen, we’ve got you covered!

                                                                                                                      1. Coordinate tuxes with your wedding scheme and colors.

It’s common for men to wear accents of the colors found in the bridesmaid dresses and bouquets. Pick a dominant hue and use it for the tuxedo vests, pocket squares or ties.  Your wedding style can also be reflected in the boutonnières. Ask the florist to incorporate tiny snowflake charms into the flowers, or use a sprig of holly instead of blooms for your winter wedding.

                                                                                                                      2. Accessorize tuxedos to add personality.

                                                                                                                      winter wedding tuxedos socks

Sure, all the men will be matching, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with add-ons that show off their unique styles. Let each guy wear his favorite rock band T-shirt under his dress shirt or flaunt a funky pair of socks. Doing outdoor pictures after the ceremony? Let each person wear a warm beanie showing off his favorite sports team logo. These create memorable, candid wedding pictures and let the men have extra fun dressing up.

                                                                                                                      3. Choose fabrics that are best for winter wedding tuxedos.

Tight-weave tuxedos made from wool blends, tweed, crushed velvet, or polyester are excellent choices for cool weather events. These fabrics are naturally heavy, keeping the bridal party men extra warm and cozy during the day’s events.

                                                                                                                      4. Flaunt classic winter wear with your tux.

The best part about a winter wedding is adding on those iconic, elegant extras. We love to see a groom traveling to and from the event in a velvet-lined winter poncho or tailored overcoat. Winter wedding tuxedos also look sharp topped with a black derby hat, wool top hat or felt fedora.

                                                                                                                      5. Let the groom stand out among the men.

Finally, the groom’s wedding day look should coordinate with the groomsmen, but have a few key differences to make him stand out as the man of the day. The groom’s vest can match the tone of the bride’s dress, or he can choose a differing jacket style. Often the groom’s pocket square or boutonnière will coordinate with his bride’s bouquet to unify their look.

As you and your significant other plan for your big day, it’s only natural that you want your wedding ceremony to reflect your personality. That’s why every fan of the Great Outdoors should consider having an outdoor wedding to truly enjoy their big day. If you’ve already made the choice to celebrate your nuptials outside, here are some tips and tricks for making sure that your outdoor plan is perfect for you and your spouse.

Don’t Overlook the Possibility of a Public Park

One of the most expensive parts of any wedding is the venue. Wedding halls of all varieties will charge you an arm and a leg for the privilege of standing in their back yard. If you want to save a little money but you don’t want to sacrifice setting, you might look through your local parks for the right spot. The prices are agreeable and — in a lot of cases — the setting is just as beautiful as an overpriced venue.

                                                                                                                      The More the Merrier Outdoors

                                                                                                                      outdoor wedding tips aisle

When you’re planning a wedding, the guest list can be something of a hassle. Between appeasing your parents and making sure you’ve got room for all your friends, there is a lot to think about. When you’re wedding is outdoors, though, you can pretty much invite as many people as you want. Got more people than chairs? No problem, the young people can stand.

                                                                                                                      Plan for the Grandparents

Every wedding ceremony is going to have at least one or two elderly attendees who might have trouble standing throughout the entire ceremony (no matter how short it is). So, if your wedding is outdoors, make sure that you have some chairs for your older guests. If your wedding location is a bit off the beaten path, you might consider renting a golf cart or something similar to help transport the elderly from their cars to their seats.

                                                                                                                      Provide Sunscreen and Bug Spray

Just because your guests are wearing suits and dresses doesn’t mean that they’re not still under attack from insects and the sun. Provide a little protection for your guests so that years from now you’re not still being regaled with the time your uncle got a horrible sunburn at your wedding.

                                                                                                                      Anticipate Bad Weather

                                                                                                                      outdoor-wedding-tips-weather

It’s cold comfort knowing that rain on your wedding day is supposed to be a sign of future financial prosperity. But when the storm clouds start to gather on your happy day, you might need all the help you can get, especially if your ceremony is outside. It’s okay to plan for a bright, sunny day and a ceremony under the sky, but you should also make sure that your venue has a backup area just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate on your special day.

                                                                                                                      Lean Into the Outdoor Setting

Your wedding doesn’t need to be a stuffy event that goes by the book. You already chose an outdoor wedding, why not accentuate that theme? Put galoshes on the wedding party to emphasize your outdoor motif (and make moving around easier). Out in the woods? Try a 4-gun salute to celebrate the momentous occasion. It’s your day, do what makes you happy.

Count on Jim’s for the Perfect Wedding Look

Fill the space with twinkly lights and lanterns, use mason jars and wildflowers for centerpieces, and accent the tables and chairs with burlap, lace or ribbons. The barn is a blank slate, so make it your own.

Whether you’re aiming for a backyard BBQ or a whimsical ballroom, Jim’s Formal Wear has formal attire that will fit your style and theme. Keep the ceremony and pictures more formal by having the gentlemen wear jackets. You’ll appreciate the finished look on your pictures in years to come. Tuxedos or suits can be paired with matching or colorful vests and ties to ensure the guys complement your wedding theme…even after they remove their jackets at the reception. And don’t forget the formal shoes made for dancing all night long. Your groomsmen will appreciate not having to shine their own shoes after the event.

We will discuss where the tuxedo came from, its evolution over time and the tuxedo we are familiar with today.

The word “tuxedo” has deeply American roots and originally did not have to do with formalwear. The word P’tauk-seet-tough, which shares its phonetics with the word we use today, was an Algonquin word given to land in New York by the Algonquin Indian tribe.

The word that evolved into “tuxedo” has been attributed both to an Indian chief with the name P’tauk-seet-tough and to the meaning “home of the bear.” In some circles, the word  tucsedo came from the Lenape language of the Delaware Indians. The word we know today as “tuxedo” in its current spelling may have been translated by the Dutch when they were granted the land we know today as southern New York State in the 1700’s. Regardless of its true origins – Lenape, Algonquin or Dutch – it is a certainty that the word “tuxedo” truly evolved from multiple cultures as history brought people from Europe into America.

The Gilded Age was approaching, and American tobacco manufacturer Pierre Lorillard IV developed the idea behind the Tuxedo Club in 1886.

Lorillard had inherited 13,000 acres around Tuxedo Lake, and with help from other wealthy New Yorkers, he developed the prestigious club that became the birthplace of the formal outfit we know as the tuxedo.

When we left off with the history of the tuxedo, we learned about Tuxedo Park and a country club established in New York for wealthy aristocrats by one of their own, Pierre Lorillard IV. From Tuxedo Park emerged a number of homes surrounding the country club, cementing the club as an important landmark for this community. Eventually, the society of Tuxedo Park developed an elite group of wealthy men that formed what was eventually known as the Tuxedo Club.

This club revolved around a social calendar that included formal events, like balls, and sporting events that allowed the men to enjoy leisure time in the community. The club even established a golf course, tennis courts and allowed for members to enjoy boating on the grounds.

Before the tuxedo became a larger player in aristocratic circles in Gilded Age America, men who attended the country club would typically wear a formal white coat and tie. However, the way in which the tuxedo emerged is hard to discern because there are multiple tales about who exactly wore the first one to a formal event at the Tuxedo Club.

Some of the lore surrounding the tuxedo attributes Lorillard’s son Griswold to bringing the fashionable, new outfit to the first Autumn Ball of 1886, which later became an annual event. According to this story, Pierre Lorillard, his father, commissioned a modified “tail-less” black jacket to wear to the ball inspired by a dinner jacket designed by Savile Row tailor Henry Poole & Co., who was England’s Prince of Wales’ tailor at the time. In this version of the story, Pierre decided last minute not to wear this radical new fashion, but Griswold and his friends modeled their outfits on his and made a splash at the ball.

Another version of the tuxedo story, which comes straight from the Tuxedo Club itself, attributes the tuxedo to Tuxedo Club member James Brown Potter. The summer prior to the first Autumn Ball, Potter and his wife Cora, while visiting England, received an invite from the Prince of Wales to join him at Sandringham, his country estate, for the weekend. Mr. Potter was unsure of what to wear for the dinner, and after asking the Prince, was instructed to visit his tailor in London to get fitted for a short jacket, rather than a tailcoat, for dinner, as the Prince had personally adopted this style and had grown to like it. After Potter returned to the United States and showed other Tuxedo Club members this new fashion trend, they embraced it and had their own tailors copy his style

Try raspberry, cherry, blueberry, and blackberry. Mix as many of these tones into the bouquets, table centerpieces, and venue decor. Then highlight one tone in the bridesmaid dresses and men’s ties.

He often opts for a basic color ensemble, like black, dark blue or gray,  and then spices things up with simple patterned Windsor ties, shiny black dress shoes and classy pocket squares. His catalog-ready look is sometimes jazzed up with a crisp black bow tie or relaxed by skipping a tie altogether and leaving the top button or two of his shirt undone. Formal or casual: Ryan Seacrest rocks the slim fit suit both ways!

But, when it comes to Eric Stonestreet‘s red carpet moments, like when he picked up an Emmy in 2012, it’s traditional black-tie all the way. A black bow tie and black-buttoned tuxedo shirt were set off with a jet black slim fit suit. He looked incredible in his fitted formal wear accessorized with a shiny gold Emmy.

In Wanted, his gun-wielding character Sloan was agile and dapper in a patterned three-piece slim fit suit accessorized with an antique pocket watch, matching vest and tie-clip. With a Windsor tie always snug at his neck and crisp white collar, he commanded respect and attention.

A lot of your wedding ceremony is going to be consumed with tradition that you simply can’t avoid. The odds are good the bride will have her father (or father figure) walk her down the aisle. Vows will almost assuredly be exchanged. The cutest (or youngest) kid in the family will be drafted as either ring bearer or flower girl.

If you find yourself getting bored of tradition, music is a great way to inject some creativity and personality into your ceremony.  Here are some suggestions for non-traditional songs to play at your wedding.

                                                                                                                      The Wedding Procession

Since the wedding procession is essentially just the warm-up act for the bride, the music should be something lively, even anticipatory.

If you’re like most guys, you’re probably not approaching the next wedding, prom, or upcoming formal event with the hopes that you’re going to be the sartorial hit of the ball. You likely want to be able to show up and fit in with other attendees. If it’s possible to stay comfortable while you’re doing it, all the better.

If that describes you, then an invitation to a formal event that lists the dress code as black tie, black tie optional, or creative black tie might throw you for a loop. Should you start looking for a rented tux or can you dust off your trusty, old suit? When do cufflinks come into play? Should you wear a pocket square? Not to worry, your friends at Belmeade are here to help you answer the age-old question: What does formal dress really mean?

Formal Dress Option #1: Black Tie

what does formal wear mean couple

You might think “black tie” just means “expensive clothing,” but the cardinal rule for men is right there in the description. When the dress code calls for black tie, go with a stylish but conservative tuxedo. Avoid loud colors and steer clear of a white jacket. Pair your suit with a black bow tie or windsor tie, as well as a coordinating black cummerbund. Go the whole nine yards with accessories, from white pocket squares to tasteful cuff links.

The call for a “black tie optional” affair is especially tricky. For men, however, it just means that one can wear a dark suit with a coordinating dark colored tie. Some men opt for a tuxedo for black tie optional events, although you risk being more formally dressed than other attendees. The rules are less strict than straightforward black tie, but you still want to avoid any big fashion statements.

Formal Dress Option #3: Creative Black Tie

what does formal wear mean creative

On the off-chance someone invites you to an event that calls for “creative black tie,” you still need to show up in a tuxedo. However, your ensemble doesn’t need to be as straight-laced as traditional black tie events. Add an eye-catching pocket square, colorful bow tie, whimsical cufflinks, or a statement hat.
